Position: Sergeant - EAC (#014174) Emergency Action Center, Columbia (RICHLAND)

Job Responsibilities

Preforms duties to ensure that the South Carolina Department of Corrections Emergency Action Center operates in a manner to carry out the mission of the agency. Must perform duties in accordance to established regulations, rules, policies and procedures. Serves as Central Communications Center for the South Carolina Department of Corrections in emergency situations. Communicates daily with agency management on emergency and non-emergency functions at the Central Communications Center.

Operates and monitors radios and other communication equipment. Provides information and support to SCDC personnel, administrative duty officer, State Law Enforcement Division, other law enforcement agencies, and other state agencies for emergency services. The Emergency Action Center (EAC) operates 24 hours a day; seven (7) days a week. Must be able to work rotating weekends and holidays. Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

  • A high school diploma and eighteen (18) months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
  • A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for 1/2 of required experience.
  • Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
  • Must be certified to operate the NCIC SLED/CJIS computer system and other necessary equipment with (6) months of entry into the position.
