Job Summary

Performs skilled tasks in a plumbing shop relating to a comprehensive planned and corrective maintenance program for University-wide plumbing systems including maintenance, installation, renovation, and new construction in over 185 buildings using 1.2 million gallons of domestic water per day with 14,500 miles of campus piping infrastructure of the University of South Carolina that includes athletic facilities, residence halls, and cafeterias operating continuously 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and could include satellite campuses and off-site facilities.

Job Related Minimum Required

Education and Experience

* Requires job related accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program and 2 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials

* Driver's license required.

Preferred Qualifications

* High school graduate and 4 years experience in the management or supervision of commercial maintenance and repair services relating to plumbing systems with a journeyman certification in plumbing.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

* Knowledge and experience in managing resources and inventories, and skill in using a computer.

Job Duty

Assists with the coordination of the installation of new and modified plumbing systems including but not limited to reading blueprints, schematics, or drawings; consulting with University Project Managers, contractors, and sub-contractors about new construction plans based on USC standards and to provide information on existing plumbing systems that may be affected during a project and advice on requirements for future construction projects;

reviewing construction areas for plumbing requirements; estimating costs for project work based on length, scope, manpower, and equipment requirements; actual installation or modification of plumbing systems; communication of expected installation or modification work with plumbing personnel; and troubleshooting new or newly modified systems to assure proper functioning.
