Operations Manager, Heavy Equipment Operator
Velox, LLC is seeking an experienced Field Supervisor who leads from the field, sets the standard for safety and quality, and takes pride in delivering underground telecom construction done right.
Location: Columbus/Warner Robins, GA (Primary)
Travel: Occasional support of other markets as needed
The Field Supervisor at Velox oversees day-to-day field operations for telecom construction projects, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards. This role supervises construction crews, coordinates field activities, and provides hands-on leadership to support successful project execution. The Field Supervisor reports directly to the Construction Manager.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and coordinate underground telecom construction activities in the field
- Lead, mentor, and support contractor crews and field personnel
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, quality requirements, and work specifications
- Read and interpret construction work prints and execute work plans independently
- Identify and coordinate underground utility locates and maintain safe working conditions
- Support permitting, right-of-way compliance, and coordination with municipalities as needed
- Communicate field progress, issues, and updates to the Construction Manager
- Assist with documentation, reporting, and tracking of field activities
- 2-5 years of experience in underground telecommunications construction
- Supervisory experience overseeing contractor crews strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of underground utility construction safety and quality standards
- Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Experience coordinating utility locates and working around existing infrastructure
- Direct supervision of fiber construction crews performing:
- Directional drilling/missiling
- Pipe installation
- Fiber placing and pulling
- Splicing and testing
- Proficiency with:
- Microsoft Excel
- CAD or workprint-based tools
- Digital reporting, data entry, and communication platforms
- Flexible schedule, including occasional evenings or weekends based on project needs
- Willingness to travel occasionally to support projects in other Velox markets
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred, not required
Note: This is not an entry-level position. Candidates must demonstrate technical competency and leadership capability. Qualifications will be evaluated during the selection process.
