CEI Senior Roadway and Bridge Construction Inspector

Job Summary

CDM Smith’s Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) team seeks a Senior Roadway and Bridge Construction Inspector for a dynamic, travel‑intensive role that requires 100% travel to national project sites east of the Mississippi River. The position offers the opportunity to work on impactful infrastructure projects across diverse outdoor environments.

• Perform complex and routine inspections of roadway and bridge construction to ensure materials and practices conform to plans, specifications, and special provisions.
• Use higher‑grade equipment and perform complex calculations required for construction inspection.
• Review drawings and prepare for construction inspections prior to site visits.
• Understand design intent for the construction to be inspected, document findings, and communicate results to supervisors.
• Inspect and monitor construction activities at project sites, performing at least two of the following categories: roadway, bridges, drainage, erosion & control, maintenance & traffic.
• Work under limited or direct supervision, depending on demonstrated knowledge for the assignment.

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Eight (8) years of related experience; domestic and/or international travel may be required.
• Certifications from a state highway agency or national entity such as ACI (American Concrete Institute) or NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies) in earthwork, asphalt, and concrete, if required by the client or jurisdiction.
• Knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction; geometry and basic mathematics; ability to read, interpret, and explain construction plans, drawings, contract provisions, and specifications.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, in English.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and the ability to learn new technologies quickly.
• Advanced knowledge of highway construction methods and the ability to lead and instruct junior inspectors.
