Introduction

Working with the rector and other staff, the Director of Communications supports Saint Andrew’s and its ministries by developing, managing, and directing cohesive, consistent communications internally and externally that support worship, programs, and initiatives through print, digital, web, social media, and other communications.

Working with the rector and other staff, the Director of Communications supports Saint Andrew’s and its ministries by developing, managing, and directing cohesive, consistent communications internally and externally that support worship, programs, and initiatives through print, digital, web, social media, and other communications.

General
  • Part-time, non-exempt employee.
  • 20–25 hours per week.
  • Reports to the Rector of Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church.
  • Schedule is flexible based on ministry needs and deadlines. Some evening and weekend work is required, including Sunday mornings, special events, and major liturgical seasons such as Advent, Christmas, Holy Week, and Easter.
Responsibilities include
  • Prepares weekly worship bulletins and other liturgical materials for Sunday services and special worship throughout the church year.
  • Creates, writes, designs, and distributes the weekly parish newsletter (The Line) and other parish-wide email communications using Constant Contact.
  • Manages and maintains the Saint Andrew's website, ensuring worship information, events, ministry pages, forms, news, and seasonal content remain current.
  • Creates engaging written, graphic, photographic, and video content for social media and digital communications that reflects the life and mission of the parish.
  • Develops promotional campaigns for worship services, educational offerings, stewardship initiatives, concerts, outreach ministries, parish events, and seasonal celebrations.
  • Serves as the parish photographer, documenting worship, parish life, fellowship, outreach, concerts, and special events while maintaining an organized digital photo archive.
  • Designs print and digital communications, including flyers, brochures, banners, signage, invitations, stewardship materials, annual reports, event branding, and other marketing collateral.
  • Ensures consistency in the parish's branding, messaging, and visual identity across all communication platforms.
  • Collaborates with clergy, staff, vestry, ministry leaders, volunteers, and outside vendors to coordinate communications for parish initiatives and events.
  • Coordinates media relations, prepares press releases, and works with local media organizations to promote Saint Andrew's worship, ministries, concerts, and community events.
  • Produces the Annual Report and assists with stewardship campaigns and other parish-wide fundraising and engagement initiatives.
  • Monitors website, email, and social media analytics to evaluate engagement and recommend improvements to parish communications.
  • Assists with parish events as needed while serving as an ambassador for Saint Andrew's in the wider community.
  • Attends weekly staff meetings and actively contributes to the planning and communication of parish ministries.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Compensation:
    Competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • 403(b) pension benefit is included per Diocese of Texas policy through the Church Pension Fund.
  • Hours are flexible but driven by the ministry calendar. The position includes weekly staff meetings, Sunday morning responsibilities, evening meetings and events, occasional weekend activities, and increased workload during major liturgical seasons including Advent, Christmas, Holy Week, and Easter.
Qualifications
  • Minimum education:

    Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, graphic design, or a related field preferred.
  • Timely:
    Must be punctual, dependable, and able to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Self-starter:
    Demonstrates initiative, anticipates needs, manages projects independently, and exercises sound judgment.
  • Collaborative:
    Works closely with clergy, staff, ministry leaders, volunteers, and parishioners to advance the mission of Saint Andrew's.
