About this role

The Design Researcher helps shape design and innovation challenges through a business‑relevant, future‑looking, and human‑focused perspective. While collaborating with designers and product managers, this role will surface critical insights about the behaviors of various audiences – and ensure our digital products are grounded in their lived experiences. This role will work on a range of innovation, digital, and design projects critical to Carrier’s continued business growth – spanning from identifying net‑new opportunities to supporting the refinement of designs in varying stages of development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and execute research projects using a mix of qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Facilitate research, balancing adhering to research protocol while recognizing appropriate opportunities for deviation to support deeper inquiry into unexpected discoveries.
  • Discover insights and nuances that are critical to understand to support bringing to life new solutions in a given space.
  • Translate research insights into actionable recommendations that improve existing products and services and inspire innovation priorities.
  • Communicate research findings and implications to internal teams and partners with clarity.
  • Meet regularly with Product Owners and Business Units to understand product vision and strategy.
  • Be a customer advocate and champion desirable customer experiences.
  • Understand complex business dynamics and clarify ambiguous problems.
  • Plan, design, and execute research activities.
  • Contribute to the growth and development of the Foundry’s Design Research craft.
  • Partner with interaction and product designers to advance the end‑user perspective.
  • Continue to build a broad‑base of skills across the various aspects of design.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 3+ years of experience contributing to digital innovation projects.
  • 2+ years of experience working with designers, technologists, and product managers.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, design, or computer science preferred.
  • Experience working in a complex matrixed environment with cross‑functional stakeholders.
  • Passion for built environments, technology, and design.
  • Portfolio displaying work samples, research process, customer insights, and examples of artifacts generated from research (i.e. Personas, Guiding Principles, Journey Maps, Ecosystem Maps, etc.).
