Primary Function

Assist assigned teaching personnel in the supervision and instruction of students with special needs; perform classroom clerical tasks; and assist students by meeting special health care needs and developing daily living and behavioral skills.

Requirements

Educational Level: Minimum 60 semester/100 quarter hours of eligible college hours, and/or passing score on the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment Test. If submitting GACE scores, provide verification of completion of a HS diploma or GED.
Certification/License: Must maintain Georgia Paraprofessional Certificate and complete in‑service training related to the position.

Physical

Activities:

Routine physical activities required to fulfill job responsibilities; ability to lift a student up to 50 pounds without assistance; ability to perform a two‑person lift for students over 50 pounds.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Written and oral communication; instructional strategies that connect the curriculum to the learners; student management; emotional qualities of patience, self‑control, and compassion.

Essential Duties

Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance.

Assist the classroom teacher in the preparation and implementation of instructional programs in accordance with lesson plans.

Assist classroom teacher with record‑keeping and data collection.

Participate in school functions, field trips, and extracurricular activities as directed by the teacher.

Participate in ongoing in‑service training.

Assist with hall duty and bus loading/unloading as directed.

Perform record‑keeping and clerical functions (e.g., scheduling, copying) to support the teacher and/or administrator.

Administer assistance to medically fragile children (e.g., tube feeding, toileting, diapering, food preparation) and other delegated medical procedures as required for assigned students.

Assist with the movement of students from one area of the school to another or to a specialized position.

Assist with instruction, positioning, and therapy as directed by related service personnel.

Assists in maintaining a sanitary environment and handling body fluids following universal procedures.

Assists in implementing community‑based instruction or community/campus‑based skills training without direct on‑site supervision in accordance with state guidelines.

Monitors the classroom during the teacher’s participation in IEP meetings or other activities requiring teacher absence.

Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.
