Job Summary

Columbus State University invites outstanding candidates to apply for the position of Assistant Professor of Public Health beginning August 2026. The Master's in Public Health Program with a Maternal and Child Health concentration was implemented in 2021 and currently has approximately 36 students enrolled with recruiting continuing to build the program. Currently, the undergraduate Health Science program, which serves as a feeder program to the MPH, had 395 students enrolled in Fall 2025.

The position is a ten-month, tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences in the College of Education and Health Professions.

Responsibilities

Significant Duties &

Responsibilities include:

Teaching graduate public health courses (e.g. Public Health Administration, Public Health Planning & Evaluation, and Selected Topics); developing and maintaining an active scholarly agenda; and performing service and administrative tasks necessary to enhance program, departmental, college, and university goals and objectives.;
Responsibilities of this position also include assisting with the Council on Education for Public Health accreditation process, recruitment and marketing of the program, advising, and other duties as needed.;
Teaching responsibility will be in the Master of Public Health program as well as in the undergraduate Health Science program.;
The successful candidate will be able to foster an environment of professionalism and collaboration, demonstrate exceptional ability to function as part of a team with university faculty and the community of practice, and engage in practices that support the University's focus on student engagement and active learning.

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications include: Candidates should have an earned doctorate in Public Health)(or equivalent) from a regionally accredited institution (ABD candidates considered); excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; a successful record of scholarship (or demonstrated potential); and a strong commitment to student engagement and active learning. Applications must include transcripts of all academic work, and official transcripts must be received prior to second-round interviews if selected. Applicants must have the ability to meet Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) guidelines, in particular a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline.

A successful criminal background check will be required as a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications include:
Preferred qualifications include successful experience teaching at the college level; record of scholarly publications; a record of professional experience in the field of public health (i.e. Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Environmental Health, Maternal/Child Health, Health Equity, or Health Policy); knowledge of and experience with accreditation from the Council on Education for Public Health; participation in relevant professional organizations; and CHES certification.

Proposed Salary

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
