ELA Middle School Instructional Effectiveness Specialist

Job opening in Muscogee County School District, Columbus, Georgia. Starting date:
July 13, 2026. Exempt, full‑time, 220 work days. Reports to Director of School and District Effectiveness.

Muscogee County Public Education Center (MCPEC)/Division of Teaching & Learning.

Primary Function

The Instructional Effectiveness Specialist leads and supports academic coaches, strengthens instructional practices, facilitates continuous school improvement, and ensures equitable academic success for all student subgroups through coaching, professional learning, data‑driven decision‑making, and instructional leadership.

Requirements
  • Educational Level: Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field. Equivalent experience in teaching, instructional coaching, leadership, and knowledge of professional learning, instructional improvement, and school effectiveness practices. Preference for experience leading academic coaches and supporting school improvement initiatives.
  • Certifications/Licenses: Professional teaching certification in Middle Grades (4‑8) Language Arts and/or leadership required. TSC Coaching Endorsement preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum five years of successful teaching in middle school; experience serving as instructional coach, academic coach, department chair, content specialist, or similar leadership role. Demonstrated expertise in curriculum, instruction, assessment, and student achievement. Experience facilitating professional learning and supporting adult learners.

  • Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Instructional coaching, mentoring, facilitation of adult learning, classroom observation and feedback, data analysis, collaborative planning, conflict resolution, technology use (Microsoft Office, Google Suite, student information systems, professional learning systems). Effective oral and written communication and ability to build positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge: Instructional best practices, differentiated instruction, culturally responsive teaching, language acquisition strategies, professional learning theory, instructional coaching models, school improvement processes, curriculum and assessment practices, data‑driven decision‑making practices.
  • Ability: Schedule and manage multiple activities, meetings, coaching cycles, analyze student achievement data, support instructional leaders, work collaboratively, maintain confidentiality, prioritize tasks, problem‑solve instructional challenges, develop actionable improvement plans.
Essential Duties
  • Provides leadership, guidance, and support to academic coaches, administrators, and instructional staff to improve instructional practices, strengthen teacher effectiveness, and increase student achievement.
  • Leads and develops academic coaches through mentoring, coaching cycles, calibration activities, and professional learning to build instructional leadership capacity across schools.
  • Collaborates with school and district administrators, instructional leaders, and teachers to implement school improvement initiatives and ensure equitable instructional practices for all student groups.
  • Facilitates instructional coaching cycles, including classroom observations, modeling, feedback, goal setting, and follow‑up support to improve instructional quality and student learning outcomes.
  • Conducts classroom walkthroughs with administrators and instructional leaders to monitor instructional effectiveness, identify trends, and support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Provides actionable feedback and instructional support to coaches, teachers, and school leaders to enhance teaching practices, student engagement, and academic performance.
  • Facilitates collaborative planning sessions, professional learning communities (PLCs), and data discussions to strengthen instructional alignment, reflection, and student achievement.
