Strategy Overview:

Community Schools United uses identified public schools as hubs to bring together educators, families, and community partners to address non‑academic barriers to learning. Grounded in a whole-child approach, the strategy is implemented through four core pillars:
Integrated Student Supports, Expanded & Enriched Learning Time, Active Family & Community Engagement, and Collaborative Leadership & Practices ensuring students and families are supported, connected, and positioned to thrive.

Purpose:

The Community Schools Outreach Coordinator serves as the liaison between the Community Schools United strategy and community stakeholders, advances internal processes and communication, and supports overall strategy planning and implementation. This position coordinates cross-sector partner engagement, initiates contact with local service providers, actively performs community outreach, and monitors progress of engagement and outreach efforts related to strategic goals.

Responsibilities:
  • Initiate contact with local partners and providers to deliver support with school needs identified in the Community Assets & Needs Assessment
  • Manage a portion of the community school coordinators time as it pertains to outreach and engagement.
  • Manage and coordinate the communication and outreach efforts to engage and align with a cross-sector pool of partners and stakeholders
  • Support the development of the infrastructure and systems to develop tools for schools, conduct a variety of needs assessments, access a provider database, and track services and partners
  • Closely coordinate efforts with other Community Schools United team members and key external partners in aligning efforts to promote school readiness, attendance, family engagement, resiliency, and child well‑being
  • Collaborate with D&E on recruiting volunteers and planning volunteer events to meet school needs
  • Manage a master calendar and coordinate logistics for school site programs and events
  • Manage the distribution, tracking, and impact of outreach materials
  • Monitor and support effective communication, collaboration, coordination and reporting between school partners, district, city, and other United Way initiatives to maximize access to services provided for schools and promote resiliency and child well‑being
  • Remain knowledgeable about the challenges that affect students’ ability to excel within the local community
  • Support cross sector collaboration between the strategy, schools and community partners
  • Support communication and updates between staff, committee members, Principals, partners, and providers, and take meeting minutes
  • Collect research and track data progress and deliverables to support partner engagement and reporting (for grants and community metrics)
  • Provide administrative and program support to team members, and coverage of community school sites
  • Organizes site-visits and learning tours for Coordinators, partners, and community members
  • Perform other tasks as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • Background in project management and research and data collection
  • Self- starter and ability to take initiative
  • Ability to work closely with different professionals, partners, community leaders, local service providers, and the general public
  • Proficient in use of computer software including MS Office and the Internet
  • Experience working with volunteers and other stakeholders
  • Must have valid driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule as needed for meetings and events (which may include nights and weekends)
