The job of Workforce Development Program Specialist is done for the purpose/s of (1) planning, coordinating, and executing district-wide workforce development activities and events to ensure student readiness for the 21st-century workplace; (2) establishing and maintaining strategic community and business partnerships; and (3) overseeing the Youth Apprenticeship Program (YAP) and school-based Work-Based Learning (WBL) coordinators to ensure compliance with school, district, and state objectives.
FundingThis position is subject to yearly federal funding and state grant funding.
RequirementsWork-Based Learning Certification (or the ability to obtain it within a specified timeframe);
Valid driver’s license.
Minimum five years of job-related experience in education, workforce development, or business relations.
Activities:
Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities.
- Skills: planning and managing complex events; developing and maintaining professional partnerships; and using web-based databases (e.g., C-NET) for program tracking.
- Knowledge: state and federal WBL standards, youth apprenticeship regulations, and local workforce trends. Specific knowledge includes Georgia Department of Education WBL Standards and Guidelines; career pathways and CTAE delivery models; and effective public relations strategies.
- Ability: schedule a significant number of activities and meetings; gather and analyze data; and work with a wide diversity of individuals and community groups. Specific ability-based competencies include maintaining confidentiality; communicating effectively both orally and in writing; and working under limited supervision to meet district-wide goals.
