Job SummaryThe Assistant Dean of Students reports to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students (AVPSA/DOS). The Assistant Dean is responsible for the development and administration of health and safety programming and assists the AVPSA/DOS with managing the student conduct process and co‑chairing the Create Care Team. The Assistant Dean of Students provides leadership at the River Park campus with respect to student development programs and services.
The Assistant Dean of Students works in cooperation with other departments across campus, and serves as a resource for students, parents, members of the faculty and staff regarding general student life issues, including Medical/Hardship Withdrawals, programming and education related to compliance (i.e., Sexual Assault and Violence Education (S.A.V.E.) Task Force, Alcohol and Drug Education Task Force, etc.). The Assistant Dean of Students supports student success and retention through efforts that enhance student engagement, well‑being, leadership development, and meaningful connections to the university community.
- Student Support, Case Management, and Advocacy (25%) – Provides strategic guidance and support to students and student organizations by addressing complex student needs, facilitating access to campus and community resources, and promoting student success, well‑being, engagement, and holistic development. Oversees the committee responsible for reviewing and processing medical and hardship withdrawal requests. Serves as the Student Affairs liaison to the River Park campus, providing support and coordination of student services.
Assists campus partners in planning social, recreational, educational, and co‑curricular programs that enhance the student experience. - Student Conduct and Behavioral Intervention (30%) – Leads the review of student conduct cases requiring disciplinary action to ensure recommendations are consistent with university policies, procedures, and best practices. Assists the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students with the annual review and revision of the Student Handbook, Student Code of Conduct, and related student conduct procedures.
- Health Promotion and Prevention Education (10%) – Develops, coordinates, and administers university‑wide health and safety education initiatives, with an emphasis on alcohol and other drug prevention. Chairs or coordinates the Alcohol and Drug Education Task Force and is responsible for completing required institutional assessments, compliance reports, and related initiatives.
- Student Organization Advising and Engagement (15%) – Advises and sponsors student organizations, serving as co‑advisor to the Student Government Association. Supports student leadership development and organizational effectiveness through advising, mentoring, and consultation.
- Administration, Budget, and Supervision (10%) – Manages the operational budget for the Office of the Dean of Students. Supervises graduate assistants and student employees, including hiring, training, evaluation and professional development.
- Institutional Leadership and University Service (10%) – Represents the Office of the Dean of Students and the Division of Student Affairs on university committees, task forces, and University System initiatives. Represents the university in the community on matters related to student affairs, student success, and student development. Performs other duties as assigned in support of the mission of the Division of Student Affairs and the university.
Minimum qualifications include a master’s degree from an accredited university in higher education, administration, student personnel, or related field and at least three years of experience in student affairs/student life.
