Executive Director of the Program for Exceptional Students

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The job of Program for Exceptional Students Autism Supports Program Manager was established for the purpose of coordinating specialized autism programming, overseeing the implementation of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) methodologies, and ensuring compliance with district and federal special education policies. This includes the monitoring of staffing needs, budget preparation, legal and due process situation management and staff training/assistance. The individual will collaborate with principals, teachers, support personnel, district staff, BCBAs, parents and other community stakeholders to ensure appropriate implementation of Exceptional Student Education programs aimed at providing on‑going support and assistance to schools and staff in the areas of district, state and federal compliance, meeting timelines, data collection, staff training, mentoring, and programming needs.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Educational Level: Master’s degree or higher in Special Education or related area from an accredited educational institution.
  • Certification/License:
    Certification in Educational Leadership. Georgia certification in Exceptional Student Education/Preferred Adapted Curriculum Certification. Restraint training. Valid driver’s license.
  • Experience:

    Minimum of three years teaching experience in the area of Exceptional Student Education, specific to individuals with moderate to severe autism spectrum disorder and significant interfering problem behaviors. Candidates must have demonstrated experience with implementing skill acquisition programs and implementing function‑based behavior support plans. Qualified candidates should be proficient in ABA methodologies and teaching techniques and possess excellent communication, organization and time management skills.

    Understanding of child development and curriculum and instructional materials used at various grade levels.

  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    • Provides Programmatic Oversight – Designs, evaluates, and supports specialized ABA‑based and Autism Support Programs across multiple school sites through the provision of a highly structured approach that relies on behavioral principles.
    • Provides Staff Supervision & Training – Trains and supervises special education teachers, paraprofessionals, and other district staff on implementation of evidence‑based ABA strategies.
    • Facilitates and supports provision of high quality individualized, educational services to students ages 3‑22 with autism spectrum disorder and other related disability areas across multiple environments within MCSD classrooms, including the general education and special education classrooms.
    • Develops, oversees and implements programmatic systems to include both skill acquisition and behavior reduction data collection, data graphing, and progress monitoring, as well as provides oversight to teachers and support staff to increase behavior analytic skill acquisition focused on analyzing data and modifying intervention programs as necessary.
