Executive Director – Program for Exceptional Students

The Program Coordinator of Educational Compliance for the Program for Exceptional Students ensures that the school system complies with all federal, state, and local laws governing special education services. This role oversees compliance monitoring, corrective actions, policies, and procedures related to IDEA, Section 504, and related regulations, and provides leadership to ensure legally sound and equitable services for students with disabilities.

This role also provides leadership, guidance, and program oversight to ensure high‑quality service delivery that supports students with disabilities.

• Educational Level: Master’s degree in Special Education, Education, Educational Leadership, or related field.
• Certification/License: Must have a valid GA state certification in Special Education; dual certification in General Education and Special Education preferred. Valid driver’s license.
• Experience: A minimum of 10 years’ experience as a special education and/or general education teacher with experience with IEP and 504 development and implementation in the classroom or school building preferred.

• Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Extensive knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, ADA, and related regulations; familiarity with psychological evaluation, consultation, counseling, social skills, crisis intervention, child find obligations, school psychology, due process, professional ethics, technology, and school reform. Technical skills include operating office equipment, using software applications, planning, organizing, facilitating teamwork, maintaining records, and strong verbal and written communication. Ability to schedule activities, gather and analyze data, make sound professional judgments, demonstrate leadership, work with diverse individuals, and make independent decisions.
  
  Ability to transport self to over 20 school sites, programs, and support facilities.

• Ensure district‑wide compliance with IDEA, Section 504, ADA, and all applicable state special education regulations.
• Oversee District’s implementation of Section 504; create/update processes and internal systems as needed to ensure appropriate implementation.
• Design, implement, and oversee compliance systems, internal controls, and audit processes at the District and school levels to ensure adherence across all schools.
• Work directly with internal and external legal personnel to direct and manage implementation of legal settlements, corrective action plans and any other post‑Complaint processes.
• Monitor and ensure the timely and accurate completion of evaluations of students, IEPs, Section 504 Plans, accommodations, service delivery, and required documentation.
• Analyze compliance data to identify trends, gaps, and systemic issues; develop strategies to address areas of risk. Track success of strategies developed with data.
