Department Information

The central mission of BFSDoArt (The Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art) is to develop students''both majors and non-majors''into critical thinkers, creative problem solvers, compassionate human beings, and life-long learners. The BFSDoArt provides students with innovative curricula incorporating relevant technologies and interdisciplinary approaches to educate students with the requisite technical skills and theoretical knowledge for competitive and successful careers as professional artists, art historians, and designers.

The BFSDoArt offers interactions with visiting designers, artists, scholars, and a diverse exhibition schedule in our state-of-the-art Center for Art and Theatre galleries. Scholarship, internship, and travel abroad opportunities are also available as part of our ongoing commitment to the development of well-rounded future world citizens whose creative research recognizes both aesthetic issues and global awareness.

Job Summary

The Betty Foy Sanders of Art is now accepting applications for a pool of part-time faculty positions to support undergraduate programs in Ceramics for the  academic year. These positions are on an as needed, semester-by-semester basis.

Responsibilities

• Teach ceramics at all levels, providing students with foundational to intermediate knowledge of clay, including hand-building techniques, wheel throwing, and surface decoration
• Operate electric and gas kilns, including loading, unloading, and firing
• Mix and reclaim clay, and mix glazes
• Ensure the ceramics studio runs smoothly and safely, including coordinating studio and equipment clean-up and maintenance with students and faculty

Applicants may be asked to teach in various modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, and online).

Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOC Faculty Credentials Guidelines.

Required Qualifications

Masters of Fine Art degree in Art or related subject with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Art or Ceramics

Classroom instruction experience in higher education.
