Overview
This position is located in Fort Benning in Columbus, Georgia.
Risk Management & Safety at Auburn University is excited to begin the search for an Environmental Protection Specialist! This individual performs duties for a variety of environmental compliance services for Fort Benning, Georgia.
Areas of specialization:
Hazardous Waste Management, Non‑RCRA waste, Clean Water Act Compliance, Clean Air Act compliance, and Storage Tank Management.
As this position will support the IGSA with Fort Benning, candidates will be required to successfully obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) to access the government network. If the procurement of a CAC is delayed, the candidate’s probationary period may need to be extended to allow this requirement to be met. Failing to meet this minimum requirement may result in termination.
Responsibilities- Conduct and perform site surveys, assessments, inspections, and evaluations to ensure regulated facilities and units or activities are properly managing environmental features of concern.
- Ensure the site maintains continuous compliance with federal, state, local, and university regulations; recommend control measures when needed.
- Provide periodic, annual, or comprehensive reports for each site visit and the results of such assessments for review, evaluation, and corrective action; maintain a database of all site visits, inspections, including facility information, point of contact information, inspection reports, and any other environmental requirements.
- May conduct chemical analysis for environmental compliance.
- Proactively seek new ways to improve overall safety and environmental performance.
- Participate in ongoing environmental and safety training.
- May participate in the chemical and/or hazardous material emergency response team; assist with spill cleanup, report spills to proper points of contact, and file spill reports both internally and externally.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- High school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of experience OR
- Associate’s degree.
- High school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of experience OR
- Associate’s degree plus 2 years of experience OR
- Bachelor’s degree.
- High school diploma or equivalent plus 6 years of experience OR
- Associate’s degree plus 4 years of experience OR
- Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of experience.
Experience in managing environmental compliance programs such as hazardous waste, clean water, clean air, or storage tank management.
