Network Engineer III

Overview

The Network Engineer III is primarily responsible for the provisioning, deployment, and ongoing operations and maintenance of all QTS‑managed network services for customers and internal QTS customers. The role requires a fundamental understanding of physical/virtual networking and firewall management, including automation, and involves working on escalated networking tickets to support the Operations Service Center (OSC).

• Install, configure, test, and troubleshoot Cisco and Juniper networking platforms such as ASR
  9000, Nexus
  7000‑9000, Catalyst
  6500/7600, and related hardware.
• Troubleshoot networking concepts and protocols, including BGP, OSPF, VLAN/PVLAN, STP, HSRP/VRRP, IP sub‑netting, routing, and advanced technologies.
• Engineer and test DDOS and traffic‑mitigation techniques and solutions.
• Troubleshoot DWDM optical network solutions.
• Manage peering/IX/NAP issues and demonstrate contemporary network architecture knowledge, security protocols, and scaling/capacity issues.
• Configure and troubleshoot site‑to‑site and client‑to‑site VPNs, including Phase1 and Phase2, and perform code upgrades and vulnerability management.
• Manage firewall rule changes and interact with the 24×7×365 Operations Service Center, being flexible in availability as needed.
• Track and manage assigned tickets to ensure SLA compliance and customer satisfaction.

• BS degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
• Seven or more years of progressive IT engineering experience.
• Five or more years of professional network engineering experience.
• Advanced proficiency with at least two of the following protocols: BGP, OSPF, HSRP, EIGRP, MPLS.
• Solid understanding of anti‑DDoS and IPS/IDS solutions.
• CCNA certification (or equivalent).
• US citizenship required by law due to federal customer contracts.

• CCNP or JCNP (Juniper) certification.
• Two or more years of service‑provider experience, preferably in a data‑center environment.
• Advanced ability with route‑optimization software, automation policies, and monitoring.
• Advanced skill configuring site‑to‑site and client‑to‑site VPNs from scratch.
• Experience with HA configurations and network security components such as firewalls, VPNs, load balancers, IPS/IDS.
• Advanced proficiency with Cisco IOS, IOS‑XR, and Nexus OS (NX‑OS).
• Hands‑on experience with Cisco Catalyst
  6500/7600, Nexus
  9000/7000, and ASR
  9000.
