Auburn University is excited to begin the search for an Environmental Protection Specialist!

This individual performs duties providing professional expertise for a variety of environmental compliance services for Fort Benning, Georgia. Areas of specialization:
Hazardous Waste Management, Non‑RCRA waste, Clean Water Act Compliance, Clean Air Act compliance and Storage Tank Management.

Responsibilities
  • Plans, prepares, coordinates, and facilitates implementation of Fort Benning Phase II NPDES Stormwater Permit. Perform on‑going inspections and provides technical assistance for the erosion and sedimentation control practices used at Fort Benning construction sites.
  • Provides environmental consultation and support to assist units, government branches, and/or federal contractors with compliance regarding state, federal and DOD environmental regulations and guidelines including review of RECs / 144

  • Plans, prepares, and coordinates implementation of the Fort Benning Surface Mining Permit. Perform on‑going inspections and provides technical assistance for the erosion and sedimentation control practices used at Fort Benning Surface Mining Permitted borrow areas.
  • Participate in the chemical and/or hazardous materials emergency response team. Assists with spill cleanup, report spill to proper point of contacts, and file spill reports both internally and externally.
  • Assist with and participate in planning and organizing community outreach and engagement.
  • Conduct field surveys to assess the condition of stormwater infrastructure.
  • Utilize GIS software to map and analyze data.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of MS4 compliance strategies.
  • Assist with the preparation of reports database management and presentations.
  • Participate in team meetings and project discussions.
  • Designs, conducts, and coordinates training and education in area of specialization.
  • All other assigned duties.
Qualifications Level I
  • High school diploma or equivalent + 4 years of experience OR
  • Associate’s degree + 2 years of experience OR
  • Bachelor’s degree
Level II
  • High school diploma or equivalent + 6 years of experience OR
  • Associate’s degree + 4 years of experience OR
  • Bachelor’s degree + 2 years of experience
Level III
  • High school diploma or equivalent + 8 years of experience OR
  • Associate’s degree + 6 years of experience OR
  • Bachelor’s degree + 4 years of experience
Scope of Experience

Experience in developing and administering environmental compliance programs such as hazardous waste, clean water, clean air, or storage tank management.
