The position is located at the FAO Representation in Georgia. The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by the FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.

The incumbent will work under the overall responsibility of the FAO Representative for Georgia, and the direct supervision of Technical Advisor (Rural Development Officer), in coordination with the Field Activity Coordinator and in close collaboration with the project team, the staff of FAO Representation and other FAO projects.

Technical Focus

The technical focus of the assignment is focused on supporting the project GCP/GEO/031/AUS on „Inclusive Rural Development and Sustainable Agriculture“ ) and implementation of the Agriculture and Rural Development Strategy of Georgia  through increased competitiveness of agriculture and enhanced inclusiveness in rural development policies.

Tasks and responsibilities
  • Support the project team with project implementation on the ground.
  • Support coordinating the project activities in target communities, including in liaising with local municipal focal points in Martvili and Chokhatauri;
  • Support project team missions in the region, including organizing meetings with LIGs, municipality representatives, performing logistics and secretarial tasks;
  • Support to disseminate information on project activities to target community members;
  • Support the implementation of small-scale investment support and community support schemes through collecting data, conducting outreach activities, and supporting monitoring activities;
  • Provide support in filling and submitting application forms for community support and small-scale investment support scheme;
  • Support the project team in facilitating the review of the implementation of Community Development Action Plans
  • Support preparation of the trainings, workshops and meetings on site;
  • Perform monitoring activities when and as required in line with the monitoring plan;
  • Support with coordination and monitoring of project activities under LoA with the Georgian Farmers’ Association (GFA);
  • Support in ensuring the integration of gender, youth and social inclusion elements into field activities with guidance from the National Gender and Social Inclusion Consultant;
  • Support implementation of the project field activities;
  • Carry out other relevant tasks.
  • University degree in agriculture, economy, public policy, international development or a related field;
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in agriculture, rural development, project coordination, field monitoring or other relevant fields at national level;
  • Working knowledge of English (level

Technical/Functional Skills

Knowledge of agricultural production methods

Selection Criteria
  • Proven experience with mobilizing and working with rural communities and farmers.
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams and large-scale development projects is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of land governance, tenure systems, and legal frameworks related to land administration.
  • Good understanding of farmer’s basic production conditions.
  • Experience working with international organizations, government agencies and development partners is an asset.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
