Overview
Responsible for all U.S. and Canadian payroll tax activities, including compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and confirmation of local, state, and federal payroll tax returns by third party provider. Responds to questions and special requests from employees and regulatory agencies. Conducts research of laws and regulations regarding taxes and payroll withholding procedures.
ResponsibilitiesPrepares appropriate files and reports for monthly, quarterly and year-end payroll tax processing and applicable filings, including reconciliation to the general ledger as well as to applicable tax service reports. Resolves prior period variances and reconciles reports to 941s and W-2s.
Maintains database with updates (e.g., status changes, tax withholding, etc.) and sets up local tax codes, payroll tax tables, and State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) rates. Compiles and analyzes payroll tax data to ensure accurate and timely deposits per Federal, State, and Local requirements. Helps maintain data integrity by running queries, auditing and analyzing payroll tax data.
Assists with resolving internal and/or external questions or issues related to Federal, State and Local payroll tax returns prepared. Researches and provides needed data for all tax inquires and audits, including letters, IRS notices, and employees inquires. Summarizes research regarding taxes and payroll withholding procedures.
Typically 2 Years Relevant Experience - Professional multi-state payroll tax analysis/administration experience
Associate's Degree - Typically, Finance or other business field or equivalent training and experience will be considered; a major which emphasizes analytical skills.
Typically 2-3 Years Relevant Exp - Multi-state payroll tax analysis/administration experience.
Bachelor's Degree - Finance or Human Resources; a major which emphasizes analytical skills.
Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC), or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP), or other relevant certification
Skills / Knowledge - Developing professional expertise, applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues.
Job Complexity - Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of variety of factors. Exercises judgement within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Builds productive internal/external working relationships.
Supervision - Normally receives general instruction on routine work, detailed instructions on new projects or assignments.
Computer Knowledge - Basic Excel principals;
Payroll, Time & Attendence SystemsHRIS / Payroll Systems - Basic ability to learn software/payroll applications and HR Systems and utilize their report writing tools to develop ad-hoc reports
Federal and State payroll and labor laws - Basic skill to keep abreast of Federal and State requirements in the field of payroll and labor laws
