Job Description
Payroll Specialist in the Muscogee County School District.
Position Title: Payroll Specialist
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Salary: $16.91 hourly
Work Days: 240
Location: Payroll Department/MCPEC
Reports To: Payroll Manager
Primary Function: Support department activities ensuring the accuracy of payroll reports, time sheets, spreadsheets, and funds distribution; responding to inquiries; providing timely payroll production.
Essential Duties- Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
- Assists auditors by providing documentation and information for audit.
- Prepares payroll related documents (retirement, sick leave, adjustments, tax forms, wage statements) for documentation.
- Authorizes monthly payments to retirement companies.
- Compiles statistical and payroll data from various sources to provide summaries and ensure compliance.
- Coordinates the payroll process with other departments and sites.
- Informs staff and outside parties of procedural requirements.
- Maintains payroll information for compliance and documentation.
- Monitors assigned payroll activities for compliance.
- Processes payroll documents and materials (time sheets, withholding, contributions).
- Reconciles payroll account balances.
- Researches discrepancies in payroll information and documentation.
- Responds to inquiries regarding payroll procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Minimum of one year payroll experience or equivalent preferred.
- Additional testing may be required for selected candidates.
- Routine physical activities required to fulfill job responsibilities.
- Skills and abilities:
Written and oral communication; adaptability to changing priorities; problem solving; proficiency in Microsoft Excel; accurate mathematical calculations; online data entry skills, including 10-key; excellent customer service skills.
