EASTERSEALS WEST GEORGIA, INC. Position:
Lead Accountant

Reports to:

President/CEO

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for managing the fiscal resources of ESWG’s programs with the President/CEO and Board of Directors. Maintains all financial records and provides accurate and timely financial reporting to assist the President/CEO and Board of Directors in management of the Program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • 1. Maintains financial records in compliance with established policies and procedures and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • 2. Monitors compliance with established internal control policies and procedures. Designs and participates in procedures to provide strong safeguards for the integrity of data.
  • 3. Prepares for and supports the annual audit.
  • 4. Provides oversight and management of accounts payable activities, cash monitoring and management.
  • 5. Supervises and oversees accounting team members. Provides support and collaboration to accounting department regarding accounts receivable, billing, collections, and client statistical functions.
  • 6. Identifies and produces reports for management that will assist in managing the previously mentioned areas.
  • 7. Provides oversight and management of general ledger and fixed asset management.
  • 8. Ensures journal entries are posted accurately, supervises, and participates in the preparation of monthly financial statements including departmental reports and ad hoc reports for management, board, funding agencies and other compliance reports.
  • 9. Reviews all financial statements and reports on a monthly basis to ensure accuracy of reporting.
  • 10. Develops and maintains cost allocation plans for the agency.
  • 11. Advises management and board of financial issues, concerns, opportunities, and trends of the organization.
  • 12. Prepares agency-wide budget in conjunction with management staff.
  • 13. Prepares financial and statistical portions of funding applications to government agencies and other funding sources.
  • 14. Manages bank accounts and bank relationships.
  • 15. Participates in or provides advice for major purchases and annual expenses.
  • 16. Develops and/or proposes finance-related policies for the agency.
  • 17. Supports opportunities for staff professional development and continuing education.
  • 18. Oversees and participates in year-end closings.
  • 19. Participates in other activities that support department and Center projects and goals as requested.
  • 20. Performs all other duties and opportunities as assigned.
  • WORKING EXPECTATIONS:
    • Exercises professionalism in presence of participants, visitors, and other staff; ensuring that all activities and conversations are always geared toward what is appropriate.
    • To ensure quality of services provided, staff are expected to receive a rating of 20 (meets expectation) or higher on all performance reviews. Scoring under 20 will result in the staff member being placed on a 1–3-month probation until the level of quality is improved or termination may result.
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business with emphasis in accounting.
    • 5 years’ experience in accounting or related field.
    • Knowledge of computers & familiarity with accounting software and be highly skilled in the use of Excel worksheets.
    • Must be highly skilled in dealing with financial and numeric data.
    • Must have excellent work habits. Results oriented and willing to get the job done.
    • Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills both verbal and written skills.
    • Able to multi-task with the ability to establish priorities and organize efficiently.
    • Willingness to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
