Planners are responsible for reviewing plans to ensure compliance with county, state, and federal ordinances and laws. They consult with contractors, engineers, attorneys, other government agencies, and the public; approve or route applications and permits; assemble maps and related data; coordinate plan data; and perform on‑site inspections.
Planner IGrade: C411 – Salary: $60,995 – $80,818
- Reviews plans for compliance with applicable ordinances, laws, rules, and regulations and reviews applicable legal documents.
- Consults and assists contractors, engineers, attorneys, other government agencies, and the general public on interpreting ordinances, laws, rules, and regulations, and resolves related problems.
- Receives and reviews applications for zoning, land use, and permits and approves or routes applications to appropriate personnel.
- Assembles maps, plans, and related data needed for plan review and assists co‑workers in performing related research.
- Receives and routes building plans to appropriate personnel based upon type and expertise.
- Enters plan and permit data and coordinates related activities with co‑workers.
- Performs on‑site inspections of proposed and ongoing plans to gather information and determine compliance.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Landscape Architecture, or Planning.
- One year of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
- Valid driver's license.
Grade: C421 – Salary: $66,331 – $87,889
- Serves as a lead to staff, assigning and monitoring work and providing direction.
- Reviews and approves final building, water, and sewer plans for compliance with applicable ordinances, laws, rules, and regulations and other engineering principles and approves permits when required.
- Consults and assists contractors, engineers, attorneys, other government agencies, and the general public on interpreting ordinances, laws, rules, and regulations, and resolves related problems.
- Prepares reports regarding the approval or rejection of plans based upon ordinances, laws, rules, and regulations.
- Coordinates the hold and release of permits.
- Assists in researching and preparing reports based upon County growth, land requirements, and other planning issues.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Landscape Architecture, or Planning.
- Two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
- Valid driver's license.
Grade: C431 – Salary: $72,136 – $95,581
- Serves as a lead to staff, assigning and monitoring work and providing direction.
- Prepares research and reports on County land use, infrastructure, regulations, demographics, and other planning related issues.
- Serves as a specialist in an area of plan review and approving final building plans for compliance with applicable ordinances, laws, rules, and regulations and approving permits.
- Coordinates the creation of maps, photographs, databases, and related GIS and planning information.
- Consults and assists contractors, government agencies, and the public on interpreting ordinances, laws, rules, and regulations, and resolves related problems.
- Assists on advising lower‑level staff on the interpretation and application of ordinances, laws, rules, and regulations.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Landscape Architecture, or Planning.
- Four years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
- Valid driver's license.
Planners may serve as a Planning Commissioner and Zoning Board of Appeals.
