Position: Supervisory Park Ranger (Chief of Interpretation and Resource Management)

Summary

This position is located in Jimmy Carter National Historic Site, in the Division of Interpretation and Resource Management. A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected. The display of a salary range on this vacancy shall not be construed as granting an entitlement to a higher rate of pay.

Major Duties:
Responsible for the technical and administrative supervision of a large and complex staff in professional, technical, clerical and administrative work to carry out the mission of the organization. This also requires managing work through subordinate supervisor(s) or lead(s). Also determines whether contractors performed work meets standards of adequacy. Advises the Superintendent on matters related to resources management. Develops long-range programs;

establishes goals and objectives and annual and multi-year work plans; coordinates resources management planning with researchers, universities, NPS science groups, and other state and federal environmental agencies. Directs preparation and Implementation of long-range resource management plans. Directs and oversees the following programs and roles in compliance with regional staff and NPS policies:
Endangered Species Coordinator, Research Permit and Reporting System, NAGPRA consultation, NPS Museum standards for the park's extensive museum collection, and other cultural resource programs to protect and monitor archeological resources. Oversee project tracking and data entry into the planning, environment, and public comment database for National Environmental Policy Act/National Historic Preservation Act compliance. Responsible for long term programming and annual budgeting submissions and ensure program accomplishments are within budget allocations.

Make recommendations for budget adjustments. Directs complex programs in resource management, interpretation, and education and performs advisory, coordination, and review services for park activities that may impact park resources. As such, the incumbent will determine the extent to which it is appropriate to develop a particular resource in the areas managed by the Jimmy Carter National Historical Park. Jimmy Carter National Historical Park is located in Plains, Georgia.

Plains is a rural community in Southwest Georgia with full services available in Americus, GA (10 miles);

Education

This position at the GS-12 does not allow substituting education for experience.

Must provide proof of U.S. citizenship. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
