Responsibilities

Under general supervision, investigate, evaluate, reserve, negotiate, and resolve assigned General Liability related Bodily Injury and Property Damage claims, ensuring quality claim handling throughout the claim life cycle and compliance with internal and external quality standards and state‑specific regulations.

  • Handle assigned severe claims while ensuring file quality and timely coverage analysis.
  • Consult with Manager on the use of Claim Coverage Counsel.
  • Investigate each claim through contact with policyholders, claimants, law enforcement, witnesses, agents, medical providers, and technical experts to determine liability, damages, and contribution.
  • Conduct interviews, obtain statements, and complete outside investigations as needed.
  • Engage and direct appropriate internal and external resources (Subrogation, Risk Control, nurse consultants, fire or fraud investigators, and other experts).
  • Verify the nature and extent of injury or property damage by reviewing records and documentation.
  • Maintain claim files and document all activities per established procedures.
  • Utilize evaluation documentation tools and review Claim File Analysis (CFA) for adherence to quality standards and trend analysis.
  • Manage litigation plans, select counsel, monitor legal expenses, attend depositions and other legal proceedings, and negotiate claim dispositions within delegated authority.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and at least three years of bodily injury liability claim handling and/or litigation experience. Must be skilled in coverage, contract interpretation, liability and damages analysis, and possess a thorough understanding of the litigation process, relevant case and statutory law, and effective claims handling practices.

  • Extensive claim and/or legal experience to evaluate severe and complex claims.
  • Ability to make independent decisions on most assigned cases without supervisor involvement.
  • Strong negotiation, customer‑service, coaching, influence, and persuasion skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong technology aptitude for business technology tools.
  • Attention to detail and analytical thinking.
  • Understanding of business line products, policy language, exclusions, ISO forms, and effective claims handling practices.

Must have:
At least two years of bodily injury liability claim handling experience or comparable litigation experience.

Required:

Obtain and maintain an Insurance License(s) within three months of starting the job and comply with ongoing continuing‑education credits as mandated.

Compensation & Benefits

Annual base salary range: $85,600.00 – $, with performance‑based cash incentive awards. Eligible for health insurance, 401(k) matching up to 5%, paid time off, wellness program, and volunteer encouragement.
