CLFC Healthcare & Communications is seeking two RID-Certified Sign Language Interpreters to provide American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation services for community programs and government services in Columbus, Georgia (Muscogee County). You will facilitate effective communication between Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals and hearing service providers across a range of community settings.
What You Will Do- Community Interpreting: Provide ASL interpretation for government offices, social services, public meetings, and community programs throughout the Columbus/Muscogee County area
- Real-Time Communication: Deliver accurate, culturally sensitive interpretation that preserves meaning, tone, and intent for all parties
- Document Translation Support: Assist with sight translation of written materials, forms, and official documents as needed
- Professional Standards: Maintain RID Code of Professional Conduct in all assignments, ensuring confidentiality, impartiality, and professional boundaries
- Cultural Mediation: Bridge cultural gaps between Deaf and hearing participants, ensuring equitable access to services and information
- Scheduling Coordination: Confirm assignment details, arrive prepared, and communicate proactively with the CLFC support team regarding availability and scheduling
Required:
- RID Certification (NIC, CI/CT, CDI, or equivalent national certification)
- Fluency in American Sign Language and English
- Minimum 2 years of professional interpreting experience
- Strong understanding of Deaf culture and community norms
- Reliable transportation for on-site assignments in the Columbus, GA area
- Professional liability insurance (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience in government, legal, or community service interpreting settings
- Specialized certification in legal or medical interpreting
- CDI (Certified Deaf Interpreter) credential for Deaf interpreter team assignments
- Georgia state licensure or registration (if applicable)
- Pay Rate: $62 - $75/hour (based on certification, specialization, and experience)
- Engagement Type: Independent Contractor (1099)
- Schedule: Flexible, assignment-based with both scheduled and on-call opportunities
- Location: Columbus, GA and surrounding Muscogee County area (on-site)
