Program Manager – Autism Supports / Program for Exceptional Students

Location:

Muscogee County Public Education Center, Columbus, Georgia.

Job Description

Coordinate specialized autism programming, oversee implementation of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) methodologies, and ensure compliance with district and federal special education policies. Responsibilities include supervising staff, managing budget, legal and due process situations, and providing training and support to teachers, parents, and community stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Provides programmatic oversight, designing, evaluating, and supporting ABA‑based and autism support programs across multiple school sites.
  • Provides staff supervision & training, training and supervising special education teachers, paraprofessionals, and other district staff on evidence‑based ABA strategies.
  • Facilitates and supports high‑quality individualized educational services to students ages 3‑22 with autism spectrum disorder and other related disability areas across multiple environments.
  • Develops, oversees and implements programmatic systems for skill acquisition and behavior reduction data collection, graphing, and progress monitoring.
  • Maintains consistency of high‑quality Behavioral Intervention Plans across the district, providing input to teachers, administrators, and support staff.
  • Ensures professional behavior, proper use of applied behavior teaching, communication, and reinforcement techniques.
  • Designs and monitors effective implementation of inclusionary best practices; implements data‑driven transition plans for Least Restrictive Environment.
  • Promotes interdisciplinary collaboration, serving as liaison between the district, families, private therapists, and state agencies.
  • Schedules district office coverage for student assignments, parent conferences, and required meetings.
  • Manages and investigates parent complaints and coordinates corrective actions, ensuring effective due process.
  • Monitors timelines, staffing, inventory, and reporting needs for legal compliance.
  • Attends mandatory leadership meetings and stays informed about regulations, policies, procedures, and district initiatives.
  • Assists personnel to ensure standards are achieved and performance maximized.
  • Participates in conference/training/staff development meetings to acquire or convey relevant information.
  • Monitors transportation service needs for safety, individual transit, bus monitoring, and other special services for students.
  • Maintains records related to crisis management procedures to provide a safe environment.
  • Reviews Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to ensure appropriate services, supports, and supplementary aides per legal requirements.
  • Provides oversight of monitoring and tracking academic progress for students with disabilities; collaborates to communicate data and insights.
  • Ensures daily attendance and punctuality to meet work unit goals.
  • Serves on district School Improvement Review Committees, GAPSS Teams, Targeted School Improvement Grant Schools, and School Leadership Teams as assigned.
Requirements
  • Master’s degree or higher in Special Education or a related accredited field.
  • Certification in Educational Leadership;
    Georgia certification in Exceptional Student Education or Preferred Adapted Curriculum Certification;
    Restraint training; valid driver’s license.
  • Minimum of three years teaching experience in Exceptional Student Education, specifically with individuals with moderate to severe autism spectrum disorder and significant interfering problem behaviors.
  • Experience implementing skill acquisition programs, functioning‑based behavior support plans, and proficiency in ABA methodologies.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and time‑management skills; understanding of child development and curriculum across grade levels.
  • Physical ability to perform routine activities required by the job.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience; citizenship, residency or work visa required.
