The Coal Equipment Operator assists the Mechanic‑Tractor Operator to operate their assigned equipment in a safe and cost‑effective manner while operating their own equipment within allowable parameters. In addition to complying with plant fossil fuel procedures, the Coal Equipment Operator performs equipment inspections at least twice per shift or more if conditions require, remains alert and responsive to equipment indications, investigates all alarms, records routine fossil fuel data and logs, maintains equipment documentation, and performs other shift duties as assigned.
Responsibilities- Know conveyor system layout, including gates and belts.
- Set up, operate, and troubleshoot all Foxboro operating systems.
- Co‑ordinate normal operation of conveyor system without damaging equipment; calibrate scales and understand other coal flow related equipment.
- Walk down conveyor/coal sampling system, inspect equipment and chutes, add oil or clean chutes as needed.
- Troubleshoot mechanical/hydraulic problems with conveyor/coal sampling systems.
- Unload fuel oil trucks following proper procedures.
- Record all required information.
- Unload unit trains at the unloading trestle using proper procedures.
- Complete required paperwork for unloading trains.
- Pass plant job knowledge written and demonstrated evaluation.
- Execute plant LOTOs and understand GEN 0201.
- Assist in training team members.
- Coordinate coal running operations with M.T.O. at the trestle.
- Participate actively in team discussions.
- Understand all procedures regarding company policies and fossil fuel operations.
- Improve job skills and knowledge for next classification (M.T.O.).
- Comply with all environmental requirements as stated in Title V Operating Permit.
- Unload trains using SCH 11520 coal train unloading procedure.
- Comply with all company safety and compliance procedures.
- Successful completion of the POSS and MASS pre‑employment test.
- Pass the plant job knowledge written and demonstrated evaluation.
- Execution of plant LOTOs and understanding of GEN 0201.
