Machine Mechanic

Schedule: Train on first shift (typically 7AM-5:30PM, occasional weekends) and after training Second Shift (5:30PM-4AM).

Proposed Salary Range: $20.06 - $23.71 per hour (Based on Experience).

Work Location: On-site (One Panasonic Drive Columbus, GA 31907).

The Machine Keeper (Mechanic) maintains the production machinery in proper operating order through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and improvement.

The Machine Keeper should have the capability to read and interpret process information and understand the impact their actions have on the quality objective.

• Perform preventative maintenance procedures: checks settings, gauge readings, sensors, etc. regularly to keep machines operating at proper specifications.
• Complete periodic cleaning and lubrication of machines.
• Tighten bolts and inspect belts and chains for wear and tear and proper tension.
• Make continuing visual and audible observations of the machines to detect any abnormalities.
• Verify all maintenance activities are complete.
• Make recommendations for preventive maintenance changes or updates.
• Troubleshoot problems with machine operation: confer with machine operators to determine the nature of the problem.
• Look for any defective materials going into the system.
• Inspect machines for jams, breakage, abnormal vibrations, etc., that may be causing the problem.
• Check settings, gauges, and sensors to determine if and what adjustments may be needed.
• Inspect the internal components of the machine by disassembly of certain parts.
• Examine texture and dimensions of the machine parts to detect wear and/or imperfections.
• Examine the mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic operation of machinery.
• Restore machines to correct operating function: make necessary mechanical and pneumatic adjustments, overhaul or repair mechanical parts as necessary.
• Conferring with appropriate personnel, such as Electronic Technicians, for electrical/electronic repairs.
• Replace belts, covers, etc. as needed.
• Start-up and test machine for corrected operation.
• Analyze downtime and quality deficiencies for the line, report any information and suggestions for improvement to the Supervisor and appropriate managers.
• Make recommendations to improve efficiency and decrease process defects; help develop and achieve a recommended plan.
• Instruct operators on how to complete minor repairs and adjustments to the machines.
• Maintain complete and accurate records of all work done on the equipment and machines.
• Count inventory of materials in the area and reconcile inventory discrepancies.
• Read, understand, and adhere to safety and environmental protection procedures and work instructions.
• Follow all company and departmental policies and procedures.
• Maintain active communication with management and other employees about all job-related concerns, and inform the Supervisor when problems occur.

Education and/or

Experience:

High school diploma or GED and two years of technical training or two years related work experience, or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience.

Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively with other employees.

Mathematical

Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute rate, ratio, and percent; draw and interpret bar graphs.
