Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/Stepdown position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and a GA or compact RN license, working night shifts on an every-other-weekend schedule.

Responsibilities
  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU)/Stepdown/Intermediate Care setting within a hospital environment
  • Patient population includes acute on chronic heart failure, post-cath with interventions, chest pain, unstable angina, ACS, sepsis, syncope, AKI, pneumonia, respiratory distress on BiPAP, seizures, pulmonary embolism, hypertension, small bowel obstruction, and GI bleeds
  • Intermediate/stepdown-level patients include decompensated heart failure on Dobutamine gtts, DKA on insulin gtts, AFib with RVR, septic patients on low-dose Levophed, thoracic patients with chest tubes, CVAs, fresh trachs, GSW/MVC, hypertensive emergency on Cardene gtt, acute encephalopathy (including ETOH-related on Precedex gtt), and occasional telemetry-monitored pregnant patients
  • Titration of vasoactive and cardiac drips including Dobutamine, Levophed, Dopamine, Nitro, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Lasix, Milrinone, Labetalol, Cardene, Precedex, and Insulin per protocol
  • Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 18:45–07:15
  • Every-other-weekend requirement
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Floating required within facility scope of practice and potentially to a sister campus
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates are accepted for this position
  • RTO maximum is 7 days; RTO cannot be requested during the first week of the assignment
  • If one or two major holidays fall within the assignment period, travelers are expected to work all applicable holidays with no holiday RTO permitted; if three major holidays fall within the assignment period, travelers are expected to work two of them
  • Major holidays include:
    Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday (counted as one), Christmas Eve/Christmas Day (counted as one), and New Year's Eve/New Year's Day (counted as one)
  • Travelers must be away from all facilities within this health system for a minimum of one full calendar year before returning as a traveler
  • No special scheduling requests, alternate shifts, or schedule changes are permitted — the posted shift is firm
  • Full compliance with onboarding requirements is necessary to start on time; delays may result in a two-week pushback due to a bi-weekly orientation schedule
Requirements
  • Active GA or compact RN license required at time of consideration
  • Minimum 2 years of PCU, stepdown, or intermediate care RN experience required
  • Current certifications required (copies must be provided for consideration)
  • Proficiency with vasoactive and titrated drip management per protocol
