Job Responsibilities

Under general supervision, provides direct patient care services as an expanded role nurse. Focuses on the prevention of illness, injury or disability, the promotion of health and maintenance of the health of populations. Cares for population with special needs during disasters/emergencies and biological and chemical protocols.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of and exercises good judgment in the execution of patient care protocols.
  • Orders appropriate pharmacologic and non‑pharmacologic treatments and administers medications and vaccines in accordance with protocol.
  • Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic testing and interpret the results to direct treatment.
  • Provides patient education and makes appropriate referrals.
  • Facilitates patient decision making by providing health education, counseling, and tools.
  • Provides thorough documentation of medical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, referrals, education and consultations in the electronic medical record system.
  • Performs women’s wellness services, contraceptive counseling, and contraceptives according to protocol.
  • Responsible for maintaining knowledge of the Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (BCCP) and enrolling eligible patients into the program.
  • Provides assessment, screening, and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases according to protocol.
  • Administers tuberculosis testing, interprets results, and works with the TB Program Coordinator to support follow‑up and treatment.
  • Provides child health, vision screening and supports the provision of other primary care services as needed.
  • Performs onsite waived lab testing offered by the HD, performs wet preps, and participates in lab QA/QI.
  • Responsible for maintaining knowledge of programs and services available through the Department of Public Health and external agencies and providing referrals to eligible infants, children, and adults.
  • Consults with and refers patients to physicians and other care providers as indicated.
  • Promote public health in the community through education about resources and programs.
  • Participates in meetings and contributes to District program goals and objectives as needed.
  • Participates in peer review according to protocol requirements.
  • Participates in emergency preparedness planning and response activities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
