Position Overview

As a Public Health RN within the Columbus Health Department at the Georgia Department of Public Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.

This position will be based in Columbus, GA and will support the Department by utilizing your expertise to fulfill the following responsibilities:

  • Serve as the TB nurse for the health department and provide professional nursing care in accordance with nursing protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Function as an expanded role nurse providing patient care consistent with patient’s level of need.
  • Utilize the EMR system to accurately document patient care and enter billing information for reimbursement.
  • Order and dispense medications based on nursing assessment and according to established nursing protocol.
  • Serve as patient advocate and refer patients to community partners or private physicians, when indicated.
Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and completion of a PHN course within one year of hire and current Georgia Registered Professional Nurse license and CPR certification. A copy of college transcript is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and one year of experience as a Registered Professional Nurse.

Employment Information

All West Central Health District 7 employees are deemed essential workers in the event of an emergency. Employees may be called to staff a shelter, work at a Specimen Point of Collection Site (SPOC), and/or work at a Point of Dispensing site (POD) as a condition of employment. The employee may be called both during and outside regular work hours.

State of Georgia employees are subject to the rules of the State Personnel Board regarding salary. DPH accepts educational credentials recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) as valid. DPH will contact educational institutions to verify degrees, diplomas, licensures, and other relevant credentials.

The candidate selected for this position may be subject to pre‑employment drug screening and a criminal background check.
