Research Internship Opportunity

The Butler Center for Research and Economic Development is seeking motivated and analytically minded business major students for a paid research internship. This opportunity is designed for students interested in gaining hands-on experience in data analytics, economic and business research, report writing, and data visualization while contributing to real-world research projects impacting the Columbus region.

Selected interns will develop and complete an applied research project that serves the Columbus community and aligns with the research and economic development objectives of the Butler Center. With guidance from Butler Center faculty and staff, interns will:

• Identify a relevant community, business, or economic issue and develop a focused research question.
• Collect, clean, and analyze data related to the project.
• Create graphs, charts, and data visualizations to communicate findings.
• Interpret the data to identify trends, patterns, and implications for the Columbus community.
• Prepare a research report summarizing the project, methodology, findings, and potential community impact.
• Present and disseminate the results to relevant stakeholders or through other appropriate outlets.
• Projects may address areas such as labor markets, housing, economic development, healthcare, education, workforce development, and regional economic trends.

Business major student with an interest in data analytics, economic research, business intelligence, or applied research. Must be comfortable working with Excel and data visualization tools; able to create clear graphs and tables; able to explain findings in a concise and meaningful way; curious and willing to move beyond the numbers to understand the story behind the data; detail-oriented, dependable, and able to work independently.

Physical Requirements Ability to perform typical office and computer-based work associated with research, data analysis, report writing, and presentations.

Preference may be given to students who have:
Previous customer service, leadership, or peer mentoring experience. Experience using Handshake or Linked In. Strong presentation or public speaking skills. Experience with Canva, Microsoft Office, or social media management. A passion for career development and student success.

$15/hourly. Work Schedule Approximately 15 hours per week for one academic semester (fall or spring). The work schedule will be coordinated around the student's class schedule and the needs of the Butler Center.
