Job SummaryThis is a supervisory and participatory commissioned position providing general law enforcement and service‑related duties for a Board of Regents institution. The role involves supervision of police officers, dispatchers, and campus safety officers, including assignment of tasks, analysis of reports, and participation in training programs. The incumbent must exhibit knowledge of federal, state, university, and departmental laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures and exercise independent judgment within prescribed limits.
Responsibilities- Provide leadership to further organizational goals and objectives.
- Provide general law enforcement duties in the protection, safety, and welfare of persons and property under the jurisdiction of the Board of Regents.
- Plan and direct work assignments of officers on shift.
- Write reports, analyze workloads, and schedule work.
- Patrol assigned area or events while observing and instructing officers.
- Respond to major calls or emergencies to direct or assist officers as needed.
- Lead the assigned patrol shift.
- Perform routine administrative duties such as performance evaluations, time sheets, and inspections.
- Enforce departmental policies and procedures as a supervisor.
- Assist in training and evaluation of new officers in the Field Training Program.
- Review and coordinate information from officers and communicate with superior officers as needed.
- Inspect equipment and appearance of subordinate officers.
- Relay and explain special orders and information.
- Check police officers' performance in the field.
- Review and assign investigation cases and reports.
- Confere with officers regarding case problems.
- Assist in more difficult investigative work.
- Prepare and coordinate public relations programs.
- High School diploma or Georgia State accredited GED certificate required;
Associate’s Degree or higher preferred. - Valid driver's license.
- Georgia POST certified peace officer per O.C.G.A. 35‑8‑8.
- Completion of a Georgia POST certified or recognized supervision training course or a recognized POST Field Training Officer course.
- Five years’ experience as a sworn peace officer with arrest authority.
- No felony convictions or crimes of moral turpitude.
- May be required to lift or move up to 50 pounds without help.
- Vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, color vision, 20/20 or 20/20 corrected.

The proposed annualized salary for this position is $62,379 and includes full benefits.
