Primary Function

The job of SCHOOL POLICE, PART-TIME was established for the purpose of identifying potential problems regarding welfare, safety and/or security of students, personnel, visitors and/or site; maintaining safety at school site by enforcing disciplinary policies and regulations; communicating information and responding to inquiries; and providing emergency care to students and other individuals.

Requirements

1. Educational Level: High School Diploma or GED

2. Certification/License

Required:

Georgia POST Certified Peace Officer with Current Muscogee County Employment in Law Enforcement

Experience:

Patrol or Investigative Experience Preferred

Activities:

Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities

5. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Written and oral communication; administering first aid and CPR; handling hazardous materials; knowledge of pertinent codes, regulations & laws; safety precautions & procedures; techniques for diffusing hostile situations

Essential Duties

1. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.

2. Administers first aid providing immediate emergency medical care.

3. Assists community law enforcement personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities within the school environment.

4. Collaborates with community agencies (e.g. law enforcement, courts, health care, etc.) for the purpose of addressing individual cases and/or taking action regarding investigations, criminal activities, gang activities, vandalism, etc. for the safety and security of the school site.

5. Communicates safety and security policies and enforcement procedures to students, staff and visitors for the purpose of ensuring their understanding of such information and the potential consequences of violation.

6. Investigates potential campus crimes and/or student related community incidents for the purpose of resolving conflicts, taking appropriate action, and/or referring to outside agency for resolution.

7. Participates in unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. as required for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.

8. Patrols school facilities (e.g. grounds, roads, buildings, adjacent areas, parking lots, etc.) for the purpose of providing visibility, maintaining security, and deterring criminal activities.

9. Prepares a variety of documents (e.g. incident reports, activity logs, memos, letters, procedures, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.

10. Responds to a variety of situations (e.g. accidents, injuries, vandalism, suspicious activities, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of taking the appropriate action to resolve immediate safety and/or security concerns.

11. Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources regarding campus security issues for the purpose of providing information, direction and/or referral for addressing inquiry.

12. Testifies in court proceedings for the purpose of providing information regarding alleged illegal activity.

13. Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.
