Trendsetter Engineering designs, builds, maintains, and operates Multiplexed Electro-Hydraulic (MUX) Controls Systems for use on a variety of Trendsetter equipment, including intervention systems. With minimal supervision, the individual will build, install, and test controls systems for subsea equipment in compliance with design and operating procedures and customer requirements. Working from written and verbal instructions, this individual performs complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical assembly operations, using electrical tools, mechanical hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, and adhering to all job requirements and procedures.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Independently completes the build, installation, and testing of subsea controls and equipment per specified procedures and quality requirements.
- Verifies and installs correct software and firmware installations, and configures software for deployment or specific project applications.
- Performs and leads the mobilization and de‑mobilization process for the controls systems.
- Works independently and with engineers to design and build custom hydraulic and electrical setups for testing.
- Independently operates both TEI and customer equipment as required.
- Independently performs FATs (Factory Acceptance Tests), EFATs (Extended Factory Acceptance Tests), and SITs (System Integration Tests) as required.
- Exhibits highly advanced critical thinking skills in troubleshooting and diagnosing problems found during testing of controls equipment.
- Operates and troubleshoots the controls HMI independently.
- Independently conducts testing on modems, digital, and analog controls boards.
- Prepares layout for assembly operations.
- Maintains equipment and tools in good condition.
- Promotes safety awareness and complies with all applicable safety procedures and regulations.
- Undergoes and maintains all training requirements.
- Operates Trendsetter Engineering or customer equipment if necessary.
- Evaluates and interprets data during and after service activity.
- Promotes teamwork and actively meets customers' service requirements.
- Makes general equipment repair decisions as needed for TEI controls equipment.
- Travels to and performs service activities for onshore/offshore electrical work.
- Maintains a clean and safe work area.
- Interacts with third‑party inspectors and customers regarding their products.
- Has advanced knowledge of all hand and power tools used in TEI controls facilities.
- Has advanced knowledge of structural bolted connections.
- Has advanced knowledge of reading DWG’s and schematics.
- Has advanced knowledge of hydraulic systems and testing equipment up to 20,000 PSI.
- Has ability to operate all TEI equipment, including man lift, air compressor, generator, small and large forklift.
- Has ability to operate overhead crane or jib crane properly.
- Uses professionalism when working with other departments or customers.
- Has advanced understanding of company HSE policies and procedures training.
- Shares knowledge and best practice across the company.
- Mentors other technicians during assembly and testing operations.
- Demonstrates ability to self‑start planning and execution of work.
- Exhibits adaptability to changing situations with a positive attitude, integrity, and patience.
- Leads safety program for designated work areas.
- Generates reports for shop management and accurately adheres to schedule.

- 5+ years’ experience as a controls technician or an electronics technician.
- Provides daily teaching and mentoring of other subsea controls technicians.
- Possesses an advanced knowledge and application of hand tools.
- Is highly advanced in the application of AC and DC electrical circuits and electrical theory.
- Has a highly advanced understanding of electrical risks and ESD awareness.
