The Transmission Driver is responsible for safely transporting equipment and materials to job sites and assisting crews with the construction, maintenance, and repair of energized and de-energized transmission systems. This role requires a Class A CDL, strong knowledge of safety practices, and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks in outdoor environments. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-focused, and capable of supporting transmission projects in various conditions.
Job Duties And Responsibilities- Safely operate and transport heavy equipment, tools, and materials to and from job sites.
- Assist crews with transmission line construction, including stringing overhead wire, setting poles and anchors, and installing grounds.
- Support installation of transmission components such as crossarms, insulators, switches, and switch gear.
- Frequently work around energized high-voltage systems, following strict safety protocols.
- Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
- Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections on trucks and equipment; report maintenance needs promptly.
- Follow all company safety policies and participate in safety training.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
Job Requirements
- Valid Class A CDL (required).
- Ability to perform rigorous physical labor in outdoor environments.
- Knowledge of heavy equipment operation and basic rigging practices.
- Familiarity with hand tools, line materials, and basic electrical concepts.
- Ability to identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit and understand minimum approach distances.
- Capable of performing bucket rescue/escape and following flag/tag procedures.
- Must pass background check, clearinghouse check, drug and alcohol testing, and DOT medical requirements.
- Must be a qualified driver according to the driver policy and maintain valid driver status.
- Willingness to travel long distances on short notice and work extended periods in various locations.
- Available to work overtime, including nights and weekends, as required.
- Understanding of transmission line construction and safety protocols.
- Ability to operate and inspect heavy trucks and equipment.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to follow directions and work effectively under supervision.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to company policies.
- Work performed outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and inclement weather.
- Exposure to electrical hazards, heavy equipment, and construction site conditions.
- Frequent travel to various job sites with occasional overnight stays.
- Work hours may vary depending on project requirements and emergency response situations.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent bending, climbing, stooping, and standing for extended periods.
- Comfortable working at heights and in physically demanding environments.
- Must be able to wear and operate all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
