The job of Kitchen Equipment Technician is done for the purpose/s of supporting the Kitchen Equipment Manager in providing maintenance, repair, and preventive services to School Nutrition Program equipment. This position assists with completing assigned work orders; performing skilled and semi-skilled maintenance activities related to commercial food service equipment; supporting preventive maintenance programs; assisting vendors and contractors; and ensuring equipment is maintained in a safe, functional, and regulation-compliant condition.

The job of Kitchen Equipment Technician is done for the purpose/s of supporting the Kitchen Equipment Manager in providing maintenance, repair, and preventive services to School Nutrition Program equipment. This position assists with completing assigned work orders; performing skilled and semi-skilled maintenance activities related to commercial food service equipment; supporting preventive maintenance programs; assisting vendors and contractors; and ensuring equipment is maintained in a safe, functional, and regulation-compliant condition.
The Kitchen Equipment Technician performs other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or HSE GED equivalent
- EPA Refrigerant certification required
- Valid Georgia Driver's License
- Minimum four (4) years of experience in food service (kitchen) equipment repair required
- Uses hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and job-related machinery safely and effectively.
- Operate commercial kitchen equipment and basic office equipment, including applicable software systems.
- Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and maintenance logs.
- Basic knowledge of commercial food service equipment and maintenance practices.
- Familiarity with food safety standards, OSHA requirements, and applicable district policies.
- Ability to read and understand equipment manuals, diagrams, and basic schematics.
- Basic math skills, including arithmetic and introductory algebra concepts.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team under the direction of the Kitchen Equipment Manager.
- Ability to follow established procedures and adapt to changing work priorities.
- Ability to interact positively with a diverse group of staff.
- Ability to problem-solve equipment issues and apply standard solutions.
- Ability to work flexible hours when needed, including responding to urgent or emergency situations.
- Ability to establish and maintain constructive working relationships.
- Ability to lift, move, and work with equipment in a physically active environment.
- Demonstrates prompt, regular attendance and follows all verbal and written instructions from the Kitchen Equipment Manager and authorized supervisors.
- Communicates effectively and professionally with school staff, nutrition personnel, supervisors, vendors, and school sites, providing updates on work orders, repairs, and equipment status.
- Assists in diagnosing and repairing malfunctions in commercial food service and refrigeration equipment under supervision.
- Performs routine and preventive maintenance on kitchen equipment to ensure proper functionality, safety, and compliance with regulations.
- Supports plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, ventilation, and other skilled trade tasks as assigned.
- Inspects equipment to identify needed repairs and follows established procedures for maintenance and service.
- Assists with installing, removing, and relocating kitchen equipment, including reading schematics and equipment manuals.
- Maintains clean, organized, and safe work areas, tools, and equipment in compliance with food safety and OSHA standards.
