Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Building Maintenance, Plumber, Installation Technician
This position is located at Southern Desert Correctional Center (SDCC) in Indian Springs. Incumbents will perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting on equipment machinery, and facility systems. Duties include diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues; maintaining accurate records of work performed, including reports on repairs and maintenance schedules. Incumbents will collaborate with other team members to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with safety standards, and respond promptly to emergency repair requests.
Responsibilities- Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting on equipment machinery and facility systems.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, including reports on repairs and maintenance schedules.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with safety standards.
- Respond promptly to emergency repair requests.
- Plumbing work: install and repair hot water heaters; repair three-phase electric well pumps and controls; modify plumbing systems and fixtures; read blueprints; measure, cut, thread, solder pipes.
- Carpentry work: construct, maintain, repair, and modify facilities, fixtures, furniture, woodwork; review plans and specifications; lay out projects; construct forms; pour and finish concrete; install doors and windows.
- Electrical work: review blueprints and schematics; calculate load requirements; install wiring, fixtures, and equipment; install switches, relays, circuit breaker panels; troubleshoot and repair electric motors, generators, equipment.
- Painting work: prepare surfaces; apply paint with brushes and airless spray; apply wall coverings; stain and varnish furniture.
- Equipment mechanical work: maintain equipment; repair carburetors; overhaul transmissions; repair differentials; repair hydraulic systems on light, medium and heavy equipment.
- Leadership: serve as lead worker or first-line supervisor to semi-skilled or general labor staff.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Four years of progressively responsible experience under the supervision of journey persons in two or more major building or mechanical trades, including responsibility for repair and maintenance activities, job layout, and material ordering.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience, as described.
- Journeyman level (journey) in the employer’s series.

- Standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in building and mechanical trades related to maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, and equipment.
- Prepare written work orders, requisition supplies, and prepare specifications.
- Read and interpret repair orders, service manuals, and building codes.
- Read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings and electrical schematics.
- Plan projects, sketch working drawings, and lay out materials.
- Estimate materials and time required to complete projects.
- Perform arithmetic calculations for dimensions, volumes, capacities, material needs and layout.
- Work on ladders and scaffolding and in confined building access areas.
- Use diagnostic and testing equipment.
- Safely operating and maintaining hand and power tools used in building and mechanical trades.
- Performing a variety of work in two or more major building or mechanical trades, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, welding and equipment mechanics.
- Operating and maintaining vehicles and equipment as required by the agency.
