Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Building Maintenance

Kanab, Utah
Hiring Range: $17.50-$20.00 per hour, depending on experience, plus benefits.
Position SummaryThis position performs a variety of skilled and unskilled physical labor and equipment operations to improve and maintain sanctuary grounds and facilities. Work requires a general knowledge of building, grounds, and maintenance techniques and may be performed independently or under supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Complete customer-generated work order tickets in an organized, professional, and timely manner.
- Perform general building repairs and minor renovations.
- Conduct preventative maintenance on equipment, structures, and landscaped areas, including fencing and paths.
- Install and repair washers, dryers, dishwashers, heaters, and swamp coolers.
- Use construction materials such as wood, metal, concrete, FRP, drywall, gravel, etc.
- Perform welding, fabrication, dumping, spreading, shoveling, raking, tamping, and other related tasks.
- Operate, service, clean, and care for tools and equipment.
- Complete drywall procedures and repairs, including texture, tape, and mud.
- Maintain a safe workplace by modeling safe work practices and reporting unsafe conditions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Basic knowledge of construction and maintenance methods, tools, equipment, materials, and practices.
- Experience with plumbing, wall repair, painting, and appliance repair (a plus).
- Ability to operate hand and portable power tools, vehicles, and mobile construction equipment skillfully and safely.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions, read and interpret maps, diagrams, and equipment manuals; maintain records; and perform basic arithmetic calculations.
- Positive, energetic, upbeat, and initiative-taking attitude.
- Ability to accommodate changes in work priorities and/or scheduling.
- Collaborative nature and willingness to work with colleagues.
- Willingness to learn on the job (required).
- Valid driver's license for at least 3 years and ability to qualify for Best Friends insurance.
Must be able to perform physical work requiring coordination, agility, strength, and stamina, including heavy lifting up to 80 pounds, prolonged standing, stooping, reaching, crawling, climbing, and manual dexterity; work indoors and outdoors in extreme heat and cold; daily exposure to dogs, cats, and other animals.
