Position Title: School-Based Mental Health School Social Worker – Grant Position

FLSA: Exempt

Salary: Teacher Salary Schedule

Work Days: 210

Location: Guidance Services/MCPEC

Reports To: Director of Guidance and Counseling Services

This posting is a 5-year grant position beginning with the  School Year.

Multiple positions available.

PRIMARY FUNCTION

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled School-Based Mental Health School Social Worker to join our team. This role will provide comprehensive mental health services, facilitate attendance interventions, and support students using a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) framework. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with students, families, school staff, and community resources to enhance students' social, emotional, and academic success.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Educational Level: Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) or a related field.
  • Certification/License:
    Certification as a School Social Worker in the state of Georgia. Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) strongly preferred.
  • Experience:

    Experience in school-based settings, counseling, attendance improvement, or crisis response is highly desirable.
  • Physical

    Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    Knowledge of MTSS frameworks, evidence-based interventions, and trauma-informed practices; strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Collaborate with school teams and external partners to design and implement Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 mental health supports.
  • Review assessments to identify students requiring additional supports and develop individualized plans.
  • Participate in MTSS and intervention team meetings, contributing expertise on social-emotional learning and behavior.
  • Provide one-on-one counseling to address students' social-emotional needs, mental health concerns, and personal challenges.
  • Assist students with developing coping strategies, emotional regulation skills, and self-advocacy.
  • Facilitate group sessions on topics such as conflict resolution, stress management, social skills, and grief processing.
  • Promote a safe and inclusive space for shared learning and peer support.
  • Respond promptly to mental health crises and implementing safety plans.
  • Serve on Crisis Response Team to provide grief solution-focused counseling
  • Collaborate with school staff, parents, and external partners to support students during emergencies.
  • Identify and address barriers to student attendance through assessments, outreach, and direct support.
  • Collaborate with families and school staff to develop attendance improvement plans.
  • Monitor attendance data and provide targeted interventions for chronically absent students.
  • Utilize Tier 3 interventions when necessary
  • Partner with teachers, administrators, and families to support students’ mental health and academic goals.
  • Provide staff training on mental health awareness, trauma-informed practices, and interventions for attendance and behavior.
  • Act as a liaison between the school and community resources, connecting families with needed services.
  • Maintain confidential and accurate records of services and interventions provided.
  • Ensure all practices align with district policies and state regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the building administrator.
