Victim Witness Advocate

The Solicitor-General’s Office of Gwinnett County is currently accepting resumes/applications for Victim Witness Advocates in the Gwinnett Judicial Circuit. This position will work closely with victims and/or witnesses of a crime to guide them through the legal process.

Responsibilities

Assisting with compensation claims, victim impact statements, and advising of available resources based on the Crime Victim Bill of Rights. Knowledge of the judicial process with respect to victims’ rights and case filings; and experience working with prosecutors and law enforcement are preferred. Assists victims in providing information and testimony to law enforcement and during court proceedings; provides assistance to investigators and prosecutors for initial and ongoing contact with the victim for interviews and trial preparation;

ensures victim contact information remains accurate for continuation of services; assists victims in preparing victim impact statements, letters, restitution forms, Victim Compensation applications, accompaniment in victim interviews; provides necessary emotional support to the victim and their family throughout the judicial process; and assists with court hearings by providing necessary services. Maintains appropriate files and related case information and prepares related correspondence.

Maintains the safety and security of crime victims; assists victims with safety planning; conducts risk assessment to determine potential and level of danger; coordinates communication with necessary professionals; provides information and advocacy for Temporary Protective Orders; and communicates with the victim regarding defendant’s release from jail.

Preferred Qualifications

Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree, superior customer service skills, positive attitude, personal responsibility and a strong sense of responsibility to the community ent in Spanish/English (Bilingual) is a plus.

All candidates are subject to a background check. Applicants selected for hire will be subject to fingerprinting, a criminal history background check, a motor vehicle driver’s history check and employment is contingent upon the completion and satisfactory results of each investigation.

Salary Range

Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience.
