Job Classification & Pay Range:
Library Assistant I, $16.00 to $25.50 per hour, beginning at or near bottom of range
To provide welcoming customer service to library patrons, duties include assisting with digital resources, locating and checking out books and other library materials, using the printer and copier, sending faxes, registering for library programs and room bookings, assisting with placing holds and interlibrary loan requests, answering questions about library services and resources, and performing other customer service tasks as needed.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Check in and check out library materials for patrons
- Answer phone calls and transfer them to the appropriate departments
- Deliver items to patrons through the curbside pickup service
- Sort materials for shelving, mending, and inspection
- Shelve materials and perform shelf reading as needed
- Use the library’s online catalog to help patrons locate items
- Assist patrons with public computers and basic technology questions
- Support patrons with printing, copying, scanning, and faxing
- Place holds and submit interlibrary loan requests for patrons
- Assist with opening and closing procedures as needed
- Support collection development activities as assigned
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous library experience or customer service experience in combination with knowledge of libraries preferred

Teamwork: Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow staff members
Communications and Media: Able to communicate proficiently in spoken and written English, via email, phone, and in-person

Image: Presents a professional image in appearance and demeanor
Technical: Capable of using computers, multi-line phones, printers and copiers, and quickly mastering the necessary software and apps for library operations
Physical Demands- Push and pull carts of library materials
- Lift boxes of library materials weighing approximately 30 pounds
- Walk and stand for extended periods of time, up to two hours at a time
- Use hands and fingers to operate computers and phones
- Grab repeatedly with hands to move items from one location to another
- Communicate verbally
