Position: Chemical Systems Technical Advisors #IN1285

Responsibilities

  • Provide problem resolution leadership for complex systems, and lead the development and improvement of work processes and systems across functions.
  • Research, design, analyze, and perform testing and failure analysis of chemical-based products, including catalysts, substrates, sensors, batteries, and fuel cells.
  • Conduct extensive chemical or electrochemical performance testing to design tests that measure chemical transformation of species, selectivity, electric yield, response to chemical and physical environments in order to determine performance and durability of electrochemically active components.
  • Examine and interpret test data using analysis methods to draw conclusions that influence hardware and controls design decisions and to provide information for computational tools development.
  • Impact product design decisions through product function modeling, simulation, and analysis to predict the capability of a product's function relative to its system, sub‑system, and/or component level requirements.
  • Lead the characterization of chemical systems to design and conduct tests of physicochemical properties, including morphology, acid‑base and redox properties, diffusion characteristics, impedance behaviors, solubility, and chemical poisoning, to aid in diagnostics and prediction of performance health of chemically active components.
  • Design and construct laboratory equipment to simulate various aging exposures relevant to practice applications of active chemical components, including thermal cycling, chemical poisoning, and physical masking as part of accelerated aging testing and analysis.
  • Perform simulation of chemical systems to determine chemical or electrochemical performance of chemically active components and systems via numerical modeling.
  • Solve product problems using a process that protects the customer, determines the assignable cause, implements data‑based solutions, identifies systemic root causes, and recommends actions to prevent problem reoccurrence.
  • Develop product systems validation plans from a variety of inputs to identify failure modes, while managing product risk and relative priority.
  • Utilize experience with product verification and validation management to negotiate product requirements against capability to guide project scope and evaluate analytical simulation and physical test results that verify product capability and validate requirements.
  • Assess legacy versus proposed system solution capabilities and product recommendations with technical documentation to support product decisions.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, and at least 4 years of experience as a Chemical, Systems, Diagnostics or Controls Engineer, Technical Specialist, or related position.
  • Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, and at least 6 years of experience in the same roles.
  • Experience in the following areas: testing and failure analysis of chemical‑based products (including batteries and fuel cells); chemical or electrochemical performance testing; interpreting test data to influence hardware and controls design decisions; product function modeling, simulation, and analysis; characterization of chemical systems; designing laboratory equipment; accelerated aging testing and analysis; simulation of chemical systems; identifying systemic root causes to solve product problems;

    product verification and validation management.
