Overview

Accounting Associate – Level III at Cummins Inc. located in Columbus, IN. This role supports the Finance function at the facility.

Responsibilities
  • Ensuring Accuracy
    :
    Complete account reconciliations and analyses to ensure financial data is accurate and dependable.

  • Streamlining Processes
    :
    Contribute to the month-end close process to streamline operations and improve efficiency.

  • Providing Insights
    :
    Compile and analyze accounting and finance information to provide actionable insights for decision-making.

  • Supporting Compliance
    :
    Prepare standard journal entries and perform complex reconciliations to support compliance with accounting standards and regulations.

  • Enhancing Reporting
    :
    Prepare tables, charts, and other exhibits to improve clarity and effectiveness of financial reports.

  • Driving Projects
    :
    Participate in complex accounting projects to drive improvements within the finance department.

  • Adapting to Needs
    :
    Perform ad hoc reporting to meet changing organizational needs and priorities.

  • Working Independently
    :
    Ability to operate with minimal supervision to contribute to the team’s success.

Education/Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or alternative experience that meets regulatory requirements.

  • A two-year university degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.

  • Significant relevant work experience or specialized skills through education, training, or on-the-job experience.

Preferred Skills, Education, and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Understanding of financial reporting, inventory accounting, fixed asset management, and month-end close processes.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems; ability to analyze complex data and support informed decisions.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

  • Experience supporting financial operations within manufacturing or industrial environments, with exposure to supply chain, logistics, and plant operations.

  • Knowledge of inventory control, capital project accounting, and financial processes supporting operational performance and asset management.

  • Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma) and process optimization initiatives.

  • Ability to balance attention to detail with strategic thinking in a dynamic environment.

Additional Information

This role is fully on-site and is not eligible for hybrid work arrangements. The selected candidate will report daily on-site and collaborate with Finance and Operations teams.
