Job Description

The Manufacturing Engineer - 2nd Shift supports evening operations by leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes. This role focuses on ensuring safety, quality, and productivity while driving operational excellence across machining and industrial manufacturing activities.

Responsibilities

+ Lead end-to-end development and implementation of manufacturing processes that ensure safety, product quality, and alignment with business and production goals.

+ Drive operational excellence by applying advanced manufacturing principles to improve equipment efficiency, process capability, and overall productivity.

+ Champion continuous improvement initiatives using established standards and tools to reduce waste, optimize workflows, and enhance overall manufacturing performance.

+ Establish, document, and standardize best practices by developing and refining manufacturing standards, procedures, and work methods across the operation.

+ Influence key stakeholders across functions and external partners by providing clear communication, technical expertise, and strategic guidance on manufacturing initiatives.

+ Coordinate internal and external resources to ensure alignment, accountability, and timely execution of manufacturing projects, delivering successful outcomes.

+ Build strong relationships with operations, engineering, suppliers, maintenance, and leadership teams, coaching stakeholders to adopt improved processes and sustain operational gains.

+ Serve as a manufacturing subject matter expert by applying deep technical knowledge to solve complex production challenges and drive innovation in manufacturing systems and processes.

+ Support machining operations by monitoring process performance, reducing machine downtime, improving equipment efficiency, and maintaining product quality.

+ Spend the majority of time on the production floor troubleshooting and supporting maintenance of industrial equipment to keep operations running smoothly.

Essential Skills

+ Bachelor's degree, with a preference for an engineering discipline.

+ 3 to 10 years of hands-on manufacturing engineering experience within automotive or industrial manufacturing environments.

+ Strong experience working cross-functionally with operations, engineering, suppliers and vendors, maintenance teams, and internal leadership.

+ At least 3 years of experience supporting machining operations, including monitoring process performance, reducing machine downtime, improving equipment efficiency, and maintaining product quality.

+ Demonstrated expertise in manufacturing engineering and manufacturing process development.

+ Ability to apply advanced manufacturing principles to improve process capability and productivity.

+ Proven track record of leading continuous improvement initiatives and standardizing best practices.

+ Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and guide stakeholders across multiple functions.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

+ Experience working closely with maintenance teams to support equipment reliability and uptime.

+ Exposure to industrial controls and maintenance-related activities within a manufacturing environment.

+ Expereience in automotive or industrial manufacturing settings with machining operations.

+ Ability to coordinate and manage projects involving internal and external resources.

+ Skill in coaching and mentoring others on process improvements and operational best practices.

Work Environment

This is a 2nd shift position, typically Monday through Friday from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM Eastern Time, with some flexibility in hours (such as 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM). The Manufacturing Engineer works closely with a 2nd shift operations team that includes an Operations Manager, a Quality Engineer, two Manufacturing Engineer Technicians, and approximately 10 to 15 maintenance technicians. The role is highly hands-on, with roughly 90% of time spent on the production floor troubleshooting issues and supporting the maintenance of industrial equipment in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

This is a Contract position based out of Columbus, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $42.00/hr.
