  • To ensure the safety of patients, visitors, employees and doctors; officers will consider the life span age relationship and safe environment needs to be maintained from infants to older adults.
  • Actively engages in reporting and notification of safety infractions, the prevention and detection of criminal activity, and prevention of any activity adverse to the healthcare environment.
  • To protect hospital assets; to maintain an acceptable level of order; control and safety; to conduct themselves with a high degree of professionalism; to enhance public relations and be courteous to all; to observe and carry out hospital rules and regulations.
  • In October of 2019 The Columbus Regional Health (CRH) Protective Services Department was designated a “Program of Distinction” by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS). CRH is one of 44 organizations that have earned the honor in the United States and Canada, and one of only two programs of distinction in the state of Indiana.
  • The base hourly rate for this position is $25.79. Individual compensation is determined for this position through years of directly relevant experience and does include shift differentials and premium pay as applicable. The hourly compensation is only a portion of the total rewards package and a comprehensive benefits program is available for qualifying positions.
  • This position will require you to work 6:00AM – 6:00PM; 40 weekly hours, with a weekend and holiday rotation.
What is required for this position:

Education and/or Experience
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Law Enforcement experience preferred
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Valid driver’s license required, and must meet the hospital's liability insurance carrier requirements.
  • Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Tier I or Tier II Police Certification within one year of hire required.
  • Completion of Certified Basic Healthcare Security Officer (CBHSO) within one year of hire required.
  • Taser Certification within one year of hire required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.

The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. May routinely carry objects of varying sizes and weight up to 1,000 feet in distance. Objects may be of different substances or shapes. Some carrying may be under emergency conditions.

Lifting does not normally require anything over shoulder height. May include controlling, moving or lifting persons in custody, unconscious, combative or uncooperative. Operating a variety of law enforcement tools, i.e., firearms, non-lethal devices, and mechanical restraints. Wear department issued body armor and duty gear at all times that can weigh as much as thirty (30) pounds. May work for long periods of time, requiring sustained physical activity and intense conditions.

Tolerate exposure to grotesque sights and smells associated with major trauma. Make rapid transitions from rest to near maximal exertion without warm-up periods. Be able to physically protect him/herself and others. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
