Facilities Engineer (Electrician)
This role focuses on maintaining and repairing facility electrical and mechanical systems across a large, multi-building campus. You will install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical distribution and lighting systems, support other trades with general equipment maintenance, and help ensure a clean, safe, and reliable facility environment. The position operates on second shift, with opportunities for overtime and occasional mandatory weekend work.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily assessments of facility systems to identify issues, verify proper operation, and ensure overall reliability.
- Install, troubleshoot, and repair facility electrical distribution systems, including 480+ volt systems, lighting systems, apparatus, and devices.
- Diagnose and repair issues with motors and motor controls, including variable frequency drives and related control components.
- Work with PLC-based systems, assisting in troubleshooting control circuits and supporting automated equipment operation.
- Read and interpret system blueprints, electrical schematics, specifications, and performance data to understand the configuration and purpose of system components such as compressors, motors, pumps, fans, switches, controls, ducts, and pipes.
- Perform electrical maintenance tasks such as conduit bending, pulling wire, installing and repairing electrical panels, and replacing electrical components.
- Troubleshoot and repair low voltage systems and fire alarm systems on facility equipment and machines, as assigned.
- Assist other trades with general equipment maintenance and repair, including mechanical, plumbing, refrigeration, and facilities maintenance tasks as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools, materials, and equipment are stored safely and properly.
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while working at heights, inside and outside facilities, and in loud industrial environments.
- Respond to maintenance requests and work orders promptly, documenting work performed and communicating status to the Facility Maintenance Manager or designated leadership.
- Support facility operations across multiple buildings, adapting to changing priorities and performing other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience performing electrical repair on 480+ volt systems in an industrial or facilities environment.
- Hands-on experience with motor controls, including troubleshooting and repair of motors and motor control circuits.
- Ability to read and understand system blueprints, electrical schematics, specifications, and performance data for components such as compressors, motors, pumps, fans, switches, controls, ducts, and pipes.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot control circuits and support PLC-based systems.
- Strong skills in electrical maintenance, including wiring, lighting, electrical panels, and electrical component replacement.
- Experience with conduit bending, pulling wire, and installing or repairing conduit and cable systems.
- Familiarity with low voltage systems and fire alarm system repair on facility equipment and machines.
- Comfort working at heights and in a variety of facility locations, both indoors and outdoors.
- Experience in facilities maintenance, including exposure to plumbing, mechanical, service, and general repair tasks.
- Knowledge of refrigeration systems and EPA Universal certification exposure or experience (if applicable).
- Ability to work effectively in an industrial environment with heavy equipment and loud conditions.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with other trades.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Training on NFPA 70E electrical safety practices (nice to have).
- Aerial lift or boom lift certification (nice to have).
- Experience in large, multi-building facilities maintenance environments.
- Comfort working with temperature-controlled indoor spaces and variable outdoor conditions.
- Attention to detail and strong documentation skills for recording maintenance activities and system issues.
