The Omenn-Darling Bioengineering Institute (ODBI) at Princeton University is launching a new microscopy facility and seeks a Facility Director to run it. The facility will house roughly a dozen advanced light microscopes, with a focus on imaging and interfacing living cells and organisms. The facility will be located in a custom-designed laboratory in ODBI's new building. The director will train and assist student and postdoc users, help design imaging experiments, maximize data quality, consult on image visualization and analysis, and manage microscope scheduling and maintenance coordination.
The position is appointed at the rank of Professional Specialist and is based on campus. This role will interface with internal and external members of the ODBI community. The University is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
- Train and assist student and postdoc users; help design imaging experiments (select microscopy modalities, sample preparation) and optimize data quality; advise on image visualization and analysis.
- Facilitate scheduling and access to the microscopy facility; coordinate with users and ensure safe, efficient operation.
- Coordinate with vendors to maintain microscopes and related equipment.
- Contribute to teaching activities, including designing custom microscopy setups for specific imaging applications.
- Collaborate with internal and external members of the ODBI community and support research programs.
- Maintain facility documentation, safety practices, and compliance with institutional policies.
- PhD in a related field; or an advanced degree with significant hands-on experience in advanced microscopy.
- Hands-on experience with advanced light microscopy and related imaging modalities; ability to guide experimental design and data interpretation.
- Experience with facility operations, user training, scheduling, and vendor coordination.
- Strong communication, mentoring, and collaborative skills; ability to work with students, postdocs, and faculty.
- Willingness to work on campus in Princeton, New Jersey.
Expected Salary Range: $130,000 – $170,000 per year.
