BEERSHEBA CHURCH JOB DESCRIPTION
Beersheba Church is seeking a committed follower of Christ to become our partime Youth Director.
The Youth Director shall be a professing Christian and committed to Jesus Christ. The Youth Director shall possess the administrative skills necessary to perform his/her duties and carry out details, as well as the interpersonal, relational skills for working with young people and adults within the congregation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:- 1. Provide for growth of youth groups.
- Locate resources to meet the needs of the youth in such areas as spiritual growth, Bible study, music, and so on.
- Offer service opportunities throughout the year to involve young people in missions, community service, church service, etc.
- Research and have schedules for special events such as camps and conferences, convocations, retreats, trips, lock-ins, and so on.
- Arrange transportation (charter bus when sensible) to events.
- Develop effective publicity for youth activities through the church newsletter, social media mailings, Group Me, etc.
- Develop plans for activities for youth (monthly if possible.)
- 2. Support young people and adults in planning and programming.
- Develop a quarterly calendar of youth programs and events.
- Help implement plans by ordering needed materials, scheduling speakers, handling set-up details, etc.
- Lead the Wednesday night youth service and get assistance where needed.
- Be available as a sub or teacher for the youth Sunday school classes. Realistically, this person usually ends up teaching SS as well.
- 3. Work with the Pastor and church committees to coordinate youth ministry with the ministry of the total church.
- Offer ideas and personal input about future goals for the church’s ministry with young people.
- With the pastor’s input have a Youth Ministry Team that will meet on the call of the Youth Director, but at least 4 times a year.
- Coordinate youth involvement in Vacation Bible School, Fall Festival, and other activities where youth may serve the church.
- Schedule and coordinate a Youth Sunday service where the youth are involved in the planning and implementation of the service (annually).
- 4. Build relationships with the parents of young people in the youth group.
- Visit young people and their families outside of church whenever possible (e.g. attend ballgames and school events, visit homes, host family events, etc…).
- Provide resources for parents, when needed.
- Call on young people in pastoral need situations such as sickness, crisis, death, etc.
- Meet with parents whenever appropriate to communicate about the youth calendar, volunteer needs, parental concerns, etc.
- 5. Work as a professional with the other ministry staff.
- 6. Respect the confidentiality of the young people, sharing ministerial concerns only with the pastor or Session when necessary. The only exception is in life or death situations in which immediate actions are needed.
- 1. The pastor will mentor and supervise the work of the Youth Director.
- 2. The Youth Director will provide to the Session a written report to summarize his/her work for the past month and advise of any needs or concerns.
- 3. The Youth Director will communicate the plans and activities of the young people to the pastor and the Session.
- 4. Should the Youth Director feel mistreated by any staff, church member, or ministry in the congregation, the Youth Director may discuss any grievances confidentially with the Session.
- 5. The Session or Youth Director may dissolve the contract by giving 30 days notice.
- 1. Salary shall be negotiated. (10-12K)
- 2. Vacation Time- 4 weeks. Any planned vacation should be communicated to the pastor and church secretary. Arrangements for subs should be made by the youth director with the aid of the pastor.
- 3. Other –
- Any fees for workshops or conferences approved to attend will be paid by the church.
- All registration costs for camps or retreats attending with youth will be paid by the church.
- Attendance at one Grace Presbytery youth event per year shall be mandatory- summer camp, fall retreat, Convocation.
